         He had a conflict that day anyway...

Retired teacher İsmet Can (60), who lives in Erdemli district
of Mersin province, went to visit his daughter in Istanbul.  While
there, a filling fell out of a tooth so he went to the nearby Istanbul
University Dentistry Faculty's clinic and was examined on 27 April.

Can then made an appointment to get the filling re-done and was
given the following time and date: 09.30 a.m. on October 5th 2018 (!).
Can checked with the appointments clerk to make sure and the clerk
confirmed it. Nonplussed, Can said that "waiting 743 days to get a
filling replaced has to be a joke. I went back to Erdemli and got it
done by a private dentist in 5 minutes."


Erdemli district is southwest of Mersin city on the Med. coast.

        Recycling at its historic worst.

A scandal has been uncovered that had remained a secret for years
along the shore in Gevaş district of Van province,  Historic Selçuk
gravestones were pulled up from their graves and used to make a
pier on the Lake Van shore 70 years ago.  The pier is now underwater.

Tahsin Ceylan, a diver and an underwater photographer, in Gevaş
again, recalled the photographs he had taken 22 years before
of the gravestone pier but realized that the pier was now no longer
there.  After talking with Gevaş Mayor Sinan Hakan, Ceylan dived
once again, this time with Prof. Dr. Mustafa Sarı and located the
Selçuk gravestones with their Arabic inscriptions.

Mayor Hakan noted that local people had heard about the Selçuk
gravestone pier "and we now know that it's true. The stones were
barbarically torn up from their graves to make a pier. We're
planning to make it an underwater museum for diving tourism
henceforth."


Gevaş is on the south shore of Lake Van.

Transport: 'Casanova' Lynched; Cross-town Flight

               "What? It's in my blood."

The night before last passengers on the Metrobus traveling from
Söğütlüçeşme in Kadıköy to Avcılar reacted with gusto when Ahmet
Çapkın sexually harassed the women sitting next to him.

//ed. note: incredibly, in Turkish 'çapkın' means 'flirt', 'womanizer',
'Casanova', 'ladies' man'. //

Çapkın's fellow passengers threw him off the bus and thoroughly
beat him.  Çapkın was then handed over to police when they arrived
on the scene. It turned out that he is an employee of TÜBİTAK (the
Turkish National Science organization) and is currently on annual
leave.


Naturally, victim Çisem hanım shared it all on Facebook.

Victim Çisem Dağdelen explained that "it was the shock of my life.
I was heading home and talking on the phone.  Then I felt a hand
passing over my leg, my stomach, my waste and my private area.
At first I thought I must be imagining it but when it continued I
got really scared. I couldn't speak, all I could do was move toward
the window. He hid his hand under his bag and jacket. I thought
about my family, my fiancé and I froze."

Continuing, Dağdelen said that "the other passenger noticed what
was happening and grabbed him. They threw him off the bus and
beat him.  He said 'she's my girlfriend'  but I never saw this guy
before in my life."


Journey began at Söğütlüçeşme, lower right, and ended at
Zincirlikuyu, upper right, where Çapkın was beaten.

     Beats getting harassed on the Metrobüs.

Anadolu Jet's flight THY-7267 took off from Adana's Şakirpaşa
Airport yesterday evening with 183 passengers on board.  When the
plane reached the Marmara region, local thunder storms forced the
pilot to land the plane at Atatürk Airport on Istanbul's European
side, rather than at Sabiha Gökçen Airport on the Asian side where
it was supposed to land.

The flight landed at Atatürk Airport at 1755 hours and 159 of the
passengers got off but 24 remained, insisting that they be flown to
Sabiha Gökçen Airport, their intended destination.  When the
resisting passengers could not be convinced to de-plane after
three hours of arguments and negotiations, the plane took off from
Atatürk at 2055 hours and flew to Sabiha Gökçen Airport across
town (!).


Hmmm, let's put Metrobus out of business...

The Goose That Ate the Golden Lighters

                        Goose

At about 9 AM the day before yesterday in Sancaktepe, Istanbul,
shopkeeper Muhammet Zarif (60) left his shop with 6,000 TL
(about 2,000 USD) and headed for home.  As he walked along
the street a Russian speaking person called out to Zarif, who had
trouble understanding what the man wanted from him.

At that point, another person 'just happened' to come by and
introduced himself as a teacher.  The 'teacher' also just happened
to know Russian and explained to Zarif that the Russian-speaker
wanted to cash in some gold and was looking for a place to sell
it.

            Just like in Fort Knox.

The 'teacher' then gave the Russian-speaker 3,000 TL for 3 gold
ingots and when he learned that Zarif had 6,000 TL on him he
asked Zarif to buy 4 ingots, which Zarif did, and said he would
go home and get the money to pay back Zarif.

Zarif waited for a while and then examined the 'ingots', which
turned out to be cigarette lighters.  Police are now looking through
security camera footage to try to identify the hoodwinkers.

Father of the Year ('Worst' Category)

Will receive his Father-of-the Year award in a special prison 
ceremony on Fathers Day. 

In Adana's Yüreğir district, Mehmet Cüneyt A. (25) eloped with
Emine K. (23) five years ago and the couple lived together in
common-law for two years.  Five months after their daughter
İremsu was born, Mehmet and Emine married legally but two
years later, because of irreconcilable differences, the two divorced.

The court gave custody of İremsu to her mother, who returned to
her father's home.  This past Monday, Emine, who works at a
private security firm, left İremsu with Mehmet while she went
to work.  Mehmet then left the child with his relatives and went
to a coffee house.


   Not appropriate for child's play. 

When Mehmet returned he found that İremsu was crying for her
mother.  When he could not quiet the child, Mehmet began to
beat İremsu, who escaped her father's grasp and fled on to the
street.  When Mehmet caught İremsu he continued to beat her
in the middle of the street

At this point, Mehmet spotted a Yüreğir municipality garbage truck,
into which Mehmet threw İremsu (!).  The garbage collectors, who
were just about to activate the garbage compressor, rescued the
child.  Mehmet then attacked the garbage collector M.K.Ç. but
onlookers called the police, who took Mehmet into custody.

Mehmet, wanted by the police on three counts of fraud, should
have been serving a 1 year, 1 month 14 day sentence. Emine K.,
when she learned that İremsu was nearly crushed by the garbage
truck compactor, filed a complaint against Mehmet.


Yüreğir district is in southern Adana province.
