"Hmmm, maybe the CIA will take me on a trip to Turkey..."

The group of 16 people, 10 of them foreigners, arrived on
Büyükada from Bostancı secretly in a private boat.  The team
had a two-day reservation but when the coup failed they left
the hotel in a rush.

According to Akşam's Leven Albayrak's report, the group's
top secret meeting was held at the Splendid Hotel on Büyükada
on the same night of the traitorous coup attempt - 15 July. The
group's leader was former CIA agent and Turkey expert Henri
Barkey.

Barkey is very close to CIA agent Graham Fuller, who wrote
letters on behalf of Fethullah Gülen so that he could remain in
the United States.  Barkey and Fuller also worked together on
a study concerning the Kurdish problem in Turkey.

As Mr.Banks from 'Mary Poppins' would say, "splendid, splendid".

The common thread among those participating in the Büyükada
meeting is their expertise in Iraq, Syria, Iran and Egypt. Their
names continually come up in discussions about the coups and
civil wars in those countries.  Most of these so-called academicians
arrived in Turkey on 13 July and they left the island in a rush on
15 July.  Some of them departed Turkey on 17 July.

//ed. note: the Akşam article listed the foreign participants - the
usual suspects -- but the tenth proved to be more noteworthy.//

Perhaps the most noteworthy participant in the meeting was a crazed
killer named Scott Lee Peterson, age 44.  Peterson is in the notorious
San Quentin prison in California for killing his wife Laci Peterson in
2002 but his death sentence is on appeal.  Peterson arrived in Istanbul
on 13 July and has yet to depart. The question is how and for what
purpose was Peterson brought to Turkey (!).

//ed. note: Akşam Managing Editor Murat Kelkitlioğlu promised
to publish even more shocking details about the 15 July meeting
in tomorrow's edition. TNT standing by, as well.//

African Anatolia, 8 Million Years Ago

(HaberTürk Newspaper, 3 August 2016)

       Archeological excitement at fever pitch.

Fossils that have emerged from the "Çorak Yerler Omurgalı
Fosil Lokalitesi" (Arid Sites Vertebrate Fossil Locality) in
Çankırı show that, from the standpoint of living species, 8
million years ago the region was essentially like the African
continent of today.

Excavation activities have been ongoing in the Fatih quarter
of Çankırı since 1997.  Up to now, about 3,500 fossils have
been recovered at the site, which was officially declared an
excavation site by a decree from the Council of Ministers in
2001.

Prof. Dr. Ayla Sevim from Ankara University, the chief of
the dig, stated that "so far we've found the remains of more
than 20 different species, including elephants, rhinoceroses,
horses, pigs, giraffes, goats, deers, sheep, otters and saber-
tooth tigers."

Continuing, Prof. Sevim explained that "it's a vertebrate
fossil bed but very different from places where today's
animals live.  As we imagine what it was like, we have to
think about the African environment.  These barren lands
once had water sources and resembled the jungles in Africa.
As we recover the fossils and identify them we are struck
by the similarity to Africa."

Post-Coup Pokemon GO Paranoia

Some wary Turks say "Pokemon GO away!"

Pokemon GO has not yet been officially sanctioned for sale in
Turkey but some people have downloaded it in pirated versions.
In any case, experts have issued a security warning, saying that
the game can be used to monitor state leaders and may even be a
terrorist threat.

Ridvan Yıldız, a lawyer and the head of the Consumer Problems
Association, warned that "the target of Pokemon GO is to listen
in at, and photograph, state leaders' homes. Yıldiz said that his
organization's experts have examined the game's software and
found that "telephones loaded with Pokemon GO can pinpoint the
place where it is, listen in and take photographs. The grandchildren
of our state leaders may be playing with this game (!). The leaders
are being listened to and their residences have become targets."

                 Hmmmmmm

Continuing, Yıldız noted that "the game is played by means of
the Android operating system that is downloaded from the internet.
One's telephone is requested to activate 'unknown sources' from
among security adjustments and this demonstrates the security
weakness in Android.  So, harmful extras can be can be loaded
onto one's phone."

Digital Security Expert İbrahim Baliç stated that "the HQS of
the MHP and CHP political parties have been designated as
'Pokemon GYM', where Pokemons fight.  There is a spot in
back of the AKP party HQS that's been given the name PokeStop.
At the Office of the Prime Minister in Kızılay there's just a
Pokestop. There are two GYM points in the Parliament but I
don't think it's limited to that.  There is a risk of divulging
information. I'd say that Pokemon GO is a fantastic way to
monitor the world, rather than building satellites."

Lawyer Ünsal Özmestik warned that the game enters Gmail
accounts putting them at risk.  Also, the game can lead many
to people to gather in one place, making targets for terrorists.

Where Are They Now? Once a Psychopath...

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(HaberTürk Newspaper, 2 August 2016)

psychopath  well, at least he's consistent... (TNT report
from a year ago.)

Enjoying one of his many hobbies.

A year ago Istanbul police conducted a raid on a site within
the historic Silivrikapı walls in Fatih.  The scene was a horror.
Gang leader Suat Şenoğlu had set up a torture chamber
reachable through secret passages in the walls.

Şenoğlu was arrested for tying up a Syrian couple with a
dog leash and raping them in his dungeon.  For some reason (!)
the Syrian couple withdrew their complaint against Şenoğlu,
who was then released by the police.

Home Sweet Home (a.k.a. torture chamber)

The day he was freed from jail, though, Şenoğlu tracked down
and shot his renters Hacı K. and Murat E. in a coffee house,
accusing them of informing on him. Police again took Şenoğlu
into custody but the wounded renters declined to file a complaint.
(!)

These days, taking advantage of the tumult caused by the failed
coup, Şenoğlu shot Tamer Ç., a health technician who works
at Cerrahpaşa Hospital in the Küçükhamam neighborhood of
Fatih district.  Police learned that 'suç makinesi' (crime machine)
Şenoğlu's next target was a pharmacist but he was captured
in the nick of time.

Şenoğlu has a police record for 13 different crimes including
narcotics sales, robbery, kidnapping and illegal weapons
possession.  This time he was again incarcerated (but for how
long?).

                     Uh, wrong runway...

In 2013 brothers Cemil and Cesur Çıtal, who live in Switzerland,
bought a disused Airbus A300-type airplane with the aim of
turning it into a restaurant.  Yesterday at around noon the aircraft
was towed out of Atatürk Airport in Istanbul in order to place it
at the restaurant site in the nearby World Trade Center, two
minutes distance away.

However, 'technical setbacks' left the plane stuck on the Airport-
Florya road, forcing the shutdown of the highway in both
directions for about two hours.  Ultimately, the aircraft was
towed to the World Trade Center site.

Şeref Aygün, CEO of the Cıtal brothers' firm, lamented that
"as the company chief I'm very upset. People trying to catch
their planes have been inconvenienced. This is a delay never
seen before. The transport firm bears all responsibility."

If you can't, land the plane.

A problem with the toilet aboard an Air India flight prompted
the plane's pilot to land at Atatürk Airport this morning. The
aircraft was en route from New York to Mumbai when the lavatory
issue arose. The plane touched down in Istanbul at about 1030 this
morning and after the necessary repairs to the toilet the plane
took off for Mumbai at 1255 hours.
