Doesn't it drive you crazy when you can't find your keys!

On the night of 15 July, members of the FETÖ terrorist
organization planned to surround Pertek in Tunceli province
and Elazığ with tanks and armored vehicles loaded with
ammunition.  However, when Tunceli Governor Osman Kaymak
issued orders to hide the keys to the ferryboats required for
transporting the vehicles, the coup-plotters' plan fell through.

On the night of the coup attempt, Governor Kaymak, Provincial
Police Chief Fahrettin Şen and the deputy governors went to
the Special Operations Office of the Tunceli Police Directorate
to counter the putsch.

During the coup attempt, former Regional Gendarmerie
Commander Major General Ali Çardakçı, who was stationed
in Tunceli at the time and who has since been appointed to become
the Gendarmerie's Public Security Chief on 30 August, and
Levent Ergün, the commander of the 4th Commando Brigade,
informed Governor Kaymak that they had not approved the
coup attempt and pledged their loyalty to Kaymak.

Ferries in question transit the Keban Dam Lake separating
Tunceli and Elazığ provinces.

Both Çardakçı and Ergün ordered their units to stay put, both
verbally and in writing.  But anxious hours transpired at the
51st Motorized Regiment Command in nearby Hozat district.
Military officials at the 51st summoned Hozat's District Chief
Bekir Demir, Mayor Celaleddin Polat and the Hozat police chief
to the regiment to tell them that the army had seized power.

Once at the regiment, Demir demanded to be allowed to leave
but he was denied this permission.  However, when the coup
fizzled Demir, Polat and the police chief were released.

Turkish as Health Hazard

Türkçe konuştuğu için yumruklandı!
Maybe he wasn't speaking proper 'Istanbul' Turkish...

In Vancouver, Canada, Turkish Canadian Dino Demir was
having coffee in a popular coffee shop.  As he spoke Turkish
on his phone, he caught the attention of two other customers.
Holding beer bottles in their hands, the other customers
confronted Demir, saying "you're speaking a foreign language
and you're coming to this country. Get out of here and go back
to your own country!"

In response, Demir admonished his collocutors about drinking
beer in a public place, which prompted the two customers to
punch Demir.  Afterwards, Demir stated that "two of the (coffee
shop) firm's workers were also angry that I was speaking Turkish."
Speaking to Canadian TV's CTV station, Demir said that he
became a target for speaking Turkish but he is nevertheless a
'proud' tax-paying Canadian citizen.

Canadian police are looking into whether the incident was a
hate crime.

Ahırına girmeye çalışan 4 yılanı öldürdü

Village chief Ahmet Turan, of Eyuplar village in Yalvaç
district of İsparta province, killed four snakes that came
into the shed next to his house in June. Turan then posted
a photo of himself and the dead snakes on social media
with the message "with God's help we neutralized the snakes
that came near our house."

However, when the photo was published in the press
authorities from the National Parks General Directorate
noticed and fined Turan 3,841 TL (about 1,200 USD) for
killing endangered species.  Turan admitted that he violated
the law but has appealed his fine, asking "what else could I
do?" when faced with the snake threat.

Heading for the Greek islands after disappointment in Turkey.

The most interesting name from among those who participated
in the 15 July meeting on Büyükada, was that of the ferocious
U.S. killer and convict Scott Lee Peterson (44).  Peterson killed
his pregnant wife Laci Peterson in 2002 and was sent that same
year to San Quentin State Prison in California, where America's
most violent criminals are jailed.

Peterson's case, for which he has been sentenced to death, is
on appeal in California's courts and according to the code
associated with him - VN2100 - he is currently in the prison.
So, his somehow being spirited out of America's most secure
prison to Turkey is raising question marks in people's minds.

According to a claim (!), Peterson made some secret agreements
that enabled him to come to Turkey.  In the event that he was
able to successfully carry out assassinations, his death sentence
appeal would result favorably for him. Intelligence officials
are evaluating information that the now-exposed convict has
fled to Greece by sea.

Camera-ready Henri Barkey didn't get expected air time.

Meanwhile, it turns out that the CIA agents, who expected
the coup attempt to end successfully, had made thorough
preparations at the Splendid Hotel on Büyükada, where they
held their meeting.

The group had set up a big TV in order to be able to make
press announcements and conduct live interviews from their
hotel,  The agent-academicians planned to explain the coup
to the world on the night of 15 July and show their support
for it.

According to information provided by intelligence units,
group leader Henri Barkey, a supporter of Fethullah Gülen,
was going to announce backing for the coup-plotters and
relate the details of the coup to the world on their behalf.

Akşam's headline from the day before yesterday - '10 CIA
Agents on Büyükada' - has landed like a bomb on the agenda.
Akşam was able to discern the names of all the participants,
who are all continually involved in places where there is
civil war and instability.
