(Hürriyet Newspaper, 7 June 2024)

In a strange twist, he turned himself in to the police.

In Selçuklu district of Konya province on 4 June at about 6 o'clock in the
morning, university student N.Ü. (24) left her dormitory and began
walking.  She soon realized that a car was following her.  The driver
got out and ran toward her with a knife in his hand.  The attacker then
pressed his knife against N.Ü.'s left wrist and began to sexually harass
her.  In a panic, N.Ü. bashed her coffee thermos against the attacker's
head, prompting him to flee.  N.Ü. reported the attack to the police.

Later that same day an individual named Ali Akdağ (23) called police
to inform them that he'd been involved in a car accident.  When police
arrived at the accident scene they found Akdağ next to his car - plate
number 07 AKS 956 - and learned that he had struck and killed
bicyclist Cihan Mert (31), an architect.  The police then realized that
it was Akdağ who had harassed N.Ü. earlier in the day.

                   Deviant's innocent collateral victim.

Akdağ was taken into police custody and jailed.  N.Ü. explained that
"I didn't know what I could do with my back up against a wall.  He
had his knife pressed against my wrist and said 'Come with me.'  I
hit him with my full coffee thermos four or five times and screamed.
He fled and a policeman who heard my screams gave me shelter in his
home.  That's how I was saved."

"Beat & Release": Chance Traffic Stop by Gendarmerie Saves Woman From Jealous Hubby's Stab Attack, in Hatay

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 5 June 2024)

And on their wedding anniversary no less!

In Kırıkhan district of Hatay province, Sinem Dönmez (30) and her
husband, prison guard Enver Dönmez (39), dropped off  their older
daughter at school on 30 May.  Sinem hanım then sat in the driver's seat
and fastened her seat belt.  Suddenly, Enver bey, in the back seat with
their 4-year-old son, attacked his wife with a knife. (!)

Since her seat belt was fastened Sinem hanım could not budge but she
took her foot off the brake so the car began to move. Coincidentally,
and fortunately, Gendarmerie traffic police noticed the car's movement,
intervened as Enver bey continued to stab his wife, and shot him in the
foot to disable him. (!)

Having sustained 27 stab wounds at the hands of her husband, Sinem
hanım was rushed to İskenderun State Hospital and after three operations
she survived.  Enver bey was treated for the gunshot wound in his foot
and taken into custody.  He claimed that he attacked his wife out of jealousy.

Sinem hanım stated that "sometimes while walking on the street he would
say to me 'why did he look at you?!  Do you know him?!'.  But that day
there was no such problem and, in fact, it was our wedding anniversary (!).
We left the house holding hands but after dropping off our daughter at
school when I fastened my seat belt he approached the car with his hand
behind his back and sat in the rear seat.  Then he began to attack me."

Routine traffic check was anything but.

" I took my foot off the break and the car began to move forward.  The
Gendarmerie soldiers were doing a routine traffic check, noticed the car's
movement and tried to stop it.  When they couldn't prevent my husband
from stabbing me they shot him in his foot, saving me.  If the Gendarmerie
hadn't been there he would have killed me for sure.  I have stab wounds all
over and my two arms are in casts.  I want a divorce and the most severe
sentence for him.  If he goes free he'll come after me and my children
tomorrow or the next day."

Sinem hanım's mother Emine Cengiz lamented that "he tried to kill my
daughter.  Someone has to tell this murderer to stop!  She's had 3 operations
in two days. Her fingers aren't moving.  I appeal to our country's leaders -
enough is enough!  Don't let the Sinems, Ayşes and Fatmas die like this!
Give these murderous husbands the most severe sentences to get them to
stop!"

From left to right: Turkish Moe, Larry, Curley.

In Sarıçam district of Adana province on the night of 28 May, Erkan
Ağuş (21), Ali Kılıç (23) and Ulaş Göl (23) went out for a drive.  They
called Muhammed Emin Beyazgeyik (17), to whom they owed 3,500 TL
(about $100), and told him "come, we'll pay you back the money we owe
you."

Shortly thereafter, Beyazgeyik came and got into their car.  After driving
around for a while an argument erupted and Ağuş shot Beyazgeyik, who
was sitting in the back seat of the car, in the chest, stomach and leg.
Realizing that Beyazgeyik had died, the three headed for Hocalı village
about 20 kilometers away.  There in a forest, they threw the dead body in
bushes and fled.

Police were alerted (somehow (!)) to the situation and determined that
the three were hiding out in the village.  A police raid on a village house
on 31 May resulted in the capture of all three.  They confessed to the
murder and have been jailed.

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 3 June 2024)

"Let me out so I can't right my wrongs!"

Emin Adanur, a former president of the Bursaspor football club, was
arrested in April along with three friends for beating up two lawyers
and a court official who came to seize Adanur's house.  The suspects
were arraigned in a Bursa court and served 35 days in jail before
being released on judicial supervision.

However, Adanur was arrested again three days later (!).  This
time the charge against Adanur concerned his fraudulent promise to
28 people to sell them houses.  The court considered him a flight risk,
prompting the order to put him in jail again.

For his part, Adanur lamented "I was in jail for 35 days and I
just got out.  During that time there was no activity at my building
site.  I ought to be there to redress the victims' damages but I can't
if I'm in jail.  I ask that I be released under the strictest of judicial
controls."

Concerned for his victims' welfare...

"Beat & Release": Truck Driver Gets Trigger-happy With His "Pompalı Tüfenk", in Adana

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 1 June 2024)

                         When guns are too handy...

On 29 May in Yüreğir, Adana, at about 6 o'clock in the evening truck
driver Murat Kebude (37) took his two daughters from his ex-wife
S.T., whom he divorced in 2023, and after buying some cake went to
his home.  A little while later Kebude's former sister-in-law Deniz Tuncel
(21) and her boyfriend Şahan Uğurlu (30) came to the house.

An argument erupted, prompting Kebude to shoot Uğurlu in the chest
with his "pompalı tüfenk" (pump-action rifle).  As Kebude was
absconding with his two daughters he encountered Deniz hanım on
the staircase and shot her in the chest too. (!)

Kebude then drove to Sarıçam, where his family lives.  He was taken into
custody by police there and jailed. Uğurlu died and Deniz hanım remains
in intensive care.

As for the argument that sparked the mayhem, when Kebude prevented
his daughters from staying with Deniz hanım, as they wanted, her
boyfriend Uğurlu chastised Kebude, saying "who are you to behave
badly toward my girlfriend??!!"  That was all it took for Kebude to grab
his pump-action rifle and start shooting.
