İdris Alakuş tight-lipped on quality of his tripe soup.

In Bakırköy, Istanbul, an incredible incident occurred at an
'işkembe' (tripe) restaurant on İncirli Avenue.  İdris Alakuş
was having soup with a friend named Savcı Karabulut when
Hasan Erdem, Kazım Ünlütürk and Adem Canbolat came in.
Alakuş had an ongoing dispute with Erdem over gambling debts.

When Alakuş asked for the check, Erdem told him that he
had paid for Alakuş's soup, prompting Alakuş to say "who are
you to pay my check?!" An argument ensued and Alakuş left
the restaurant but returned 15 minutes later with a gun. He then
shot Erdem, Ünlütürk and Canbolat.  Erdem died at the scene
as Alakuş fled, but he was caught 8 hours later.

Kinda look like Pez dispensers, but a bit more lethal.

Engineering student N.M. (19), who is studying machine
engineering at a university in Istanbul, was arrested in Bursa
for selling 16 pen-guns. Based on a tip, police took N.M. into
custody at the Bursa bus terminal.


Loading procedure pretty much the same.

The 16 pen-guns, contained in a shoe box, were confiscated from
N.M., who works at lathe workshop after school.  The guns can
shoot one bullet and N.M. explained that he made and sold the
pen-guns to help with his school expenses.

Russians Sink En Route to Madagascar

Zodiac - maybe OK for an oligarch's yacht but to Madagascar?

Two ambitious Russian youths who set out from Moscow three
days ago en route to Madagascar (!) in a 6-meter long Zodiac boat,
ran into trouble in the Bosphorus near the Kuleli military school
(close to Çengelköy).  Their boat hit an object under the surface and
began taking on water. The current then dragged the boat toward Ahırkapı,
near Cankurtaran.

The Russians, engineer Alexander Panov (27) and market worker Artem
Kirakozov (35), planned to reach Madacascar in 20 days but after their
mishap in the Bosphorus they were fortunate to be saved by a rescue
team from the Young Maritimers and Solidarity Association at Ahırkapı.

After repairs were completed at Ahırkapı and the Russians had a bit of a
rest they set out in their Zodiac boat toward the Çanakkale Strait. After
that, their route will take them through the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden,
into the Indian Ocean and ultimately (they hope) to Madacascar.

Kirakozov explained that the purpose of their journey is to show others
how to test their limits and come face to face with, and then conquer,
their fears. "We want to show regular people what the dangers are out in
the rest of the world."  

Mother-in-Law Killer's Family Vacation

Not crazy about his mother-in-law, but otherwise a family guy.

Hüseyin E. (39), in Silivri prison in Istanbul for killing his mother
-in-law, went on a week's leave from jail (!) on 9 March and made
contact with his 16 year-old daughter, his nephew and 3 other minors.

The families of the minors contacted police when then learned that
their chilren were missing.  Istanbul police were able to determine
that Hüseyin E. and the children were in a hotel in Bodrum district
of Muğla province.  The Gendarmerie in Bodrum then conducted an
operation, taking Hüseyin E. into custody and returning the minors
to their families.

It turned out that Hüzeyin E. had persuaded the minors to take
20,000 TL worth of jewelry from their families.  Using the
children as camouflage, Hüzeyin E. was planning to leave the country
with a fake passport.  He claimed, however, to have taken the young
people to Bodrum for a vacation, explaining to police that "these kids
haven't had a vacation in years.  That's why I brought them to Bodrum.
After a week-10 day vacation I was going to take them to their homes
and turn myself in." (!)

Victimized Divorced Fathers Association Prez Muhammet Özen -
certainly looks like the right guy for the job.

In Izmir, Muhammet Özen, president of the Victimized Divorced
Fathers Association (!), received some negative reactions when he
declared that "I kiss the foreheads of the heroic fatheres who have
killed their wives."

This time he himself is in prison.  Özen telephoned his ex-wife
and threatened to kill her with a saw and was hit with an 8-month
prison sentence.  Özen received another 8-month jail term for
threatening to kidnap his ex-wife's child.  Both verdicts were
approved by a higher court, paving the way for Özen to go to prison.

                 Caution, wide load.

In Havza district of Samsun province, Suspect Metin E., who weighs
300 kilograms (about 660 lbs.), was transported to court yesterday in
an ambulance as part of an investigation into a sexual assault case
involving a high school girl.  

After questioning, Metin E. was arrested on the charge of "facilitating
prostitution and child exploitation."  The suspect was again transported
by ambulance, this time to prison.


Havza district is in southern Samsun province.
