Ş.Y. was engaged in rather unneighborly activity.

B.A. (28), who lives in Bursa, invited her former neighbor Ş.Y.
(45) to her engagement party the day before yesterday.  Ş.Y. stayed
at B.A.'s house during the festivities.  The day after, B.A. noticed
that eight gold bracelets and 20,000 TL were missing and she
informed the police.

Ş.Y. was taken into custody on suspicion but released for lack of
evidence. However, police determined that the day after the
engagement party Ş.Y. had gone to a courier service and had a
package sent to her home in Kocaeli.  A policeman then disguised
himself as a courier from the company and delivered the package
to Ş.Y.'s home. When she opened the package the stolen gold and
money emerged, forcing Ş.Y. to admit her guilt.

                       The resemblance...

Last Tuesday four Uzbeks and two Ukrainians with ties to ISIS
who were awaiting deportation at the Harmandalı Deportation
Center in Izmir escaped by tying bed sheets together and lowering
themselves to the ground from a second floor window.


                 ...is uncanny, on many levels.

Of the Uzbeks - Jahongır P., Shokhzod K., İlyos H. and Abdulkbol
L. - Abdulkbol N. is still at large.  Ukrainian Ruslan K. was captured
along with the three other Uzbeks about an hour later. Admm L.
remains on the loose.

Death by Wrong-Way Forklift

Of all the ways to meet one's maker, figure the odds.

In Finike, Antalya, Nuriye Demir (68) withdrew her retirement
salary from an ATM.  Then, as she crossed the street shen lost
her life when a forklift dumped stone tablets on top of her (!).

Yesterday around noon, Demir was crossing Şerbetçi Boulevard
heading toward her home with her salary.  However, forklift driver
Nurettin Bakla, coming the wrong way on the street and seeing
Demir only at the last moment, slammed on the brakes sending
his load of stone tablets flying on top of Demir and killng her.
Bakla was taken into custody.


Finike district is on Antalya's western Med coast.

 Europeans used to expand 'THY' to 'They Hate You'...

The day before yesterday Turkish Airlines (THY) flight TK7257
took off from Ankara at 2230 hours with an intended landing time
at Sabiha Gökçen Airport on the Asian side of  Istanbul of 2345 hours.
The flight was delayed 1.5 hours and the second runway at Sabiha
Gökçen was closed at 0100 until 0500 for construction work so the
flight could not land at Sabiha Gökçen.

Finally, the flight landed at Atatürk Airport, 72 kilometers away on
the European side of Istanbul, at 0120 hours.  The 179 passengers
on the flight took great exception to this detour and were bussed
back to Sabıha Gökçen at 0200 hours.


Luckily, the third airport isn't open yet, otherwise...

        He needs an ambulance-chaser now.

Retired English ambulance driver Tony Robyns (52) came to
Bodrum for a vacation with his wife and 3 children.  Ten days
ago Robyns went diving near Yassıada island, which is off-limits,
and found 13 ancient bronze coins.  At the end of his vacation, the
coins that Robyns found were spotted by the airport x-ray machine.
He now faces between 3 and 5 years in jail (!) for smuggling historical
treasures.


Related or not, the both may be hoodwinkers.

Inveterate Bingo'ers Defy All Impedements

Gendarmerie says "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!"

After HaberTürk exposed the 'tombala' (bingo-like gambling)
swindle taking place in Adana and Mersin, the Gendarmerie
raided the premises 8 times in 23 days (!).  The 'tombalacılar'
(practitioners) rented an unused factory building in the Yenice
neighborhood of Tarsus district in Mersin province and put a
sign out front declaring it to be the "Transport and Workers
Union".

The first Gendarmerie raid took place on 25 July and the first
floor of the factory was sealed.  However, the 'tombalacılar'
set up a new gaming area on the second floor.  After HaberTürk
wrote about a '80,000 TL one-night swindle', the Gendarmerie
raided the factory a second time, followed by raids on 7 other
sites in the subsequent days.

All the sites were sealed by the governor's office and the
municipality but the 'tombalacılar' were undeterred.  The 8th
raid against the 'Union' occurred the day before yesterday, with
77 people being assessed fines totalling 17,479 TL.  The
Gendarmie seized 1 blowing machine and plastic hose, a sound
amplifier, a 'take-a-number' machine, 150 gaming cards and
4,879 game pieces.

The entire factory building has now been sealed.  After 'Union
Chief' N.B. was apprehended during the first raid, the 'Union
Secretary' A.A. and two other people took over the enterprise.
In the course of the 8 raids 860 people were fined 187,000 TL.
Another 70 individuals were charged with establishing a
gambling site.  The 'tombalacılar' paid all the fines of the 860
people charged.
