NSA among his students henceforth.
Kürşat Oğuzhan Akıncı (26) is a cyber security expert at the Defense
Technologies Engineering AŞ company, which is linked to the Turkish
government's Defense Industry Undersecretariat. A few months ago,
Akıncı detected a critical security breach in the web page of the U.S.
National Security Agency (NSA).
In order to document his finding, Akıncı took a screen image of the
moment of the leak into the www.nsa.gov internet site. He was then
able to enter into the database housing NSA's personnel information.
By means of the world famous 'Hackerone' prize hunting platform,
Akıncı informed the U.S. Department of Defense of the security breach.
Four months after Akıncı's notification (!), NSA closed the breach and
sent an email to Akıncı asking him to confırm that the breach had in
fact been closed. Akıncı checked and confırmed to NSA that the breach
had been rectified. In a gesture of thanks to Akıncı, NSA sent him two
badges of appreciation.
Additionally, Akıncı's name was added to the U.S. Defense Department's
'Hall of Flame' (sic, 'Hall of Fame'?), which already includes the names
of 295 other individuals, and the 'white hat' Turkish hacker also became
the 67th person to be included on NSA's list.
Oozing lately.
