effort came in a number of forms, one of which was guns
and ammunition ferried across the Black Sea. From 1921 to
1923 the 'Alemdar', an Ottoman salvage ship hijacked from
Istanbul by Kemalist sympathizers in January 1921, did a
lot of this ferrying. But the 'Alemdar', outfitted with cannon
in 1922, also fought Greek gangs in the open waters of the
Black Sea and transported Caucasus refugees from Batumi
to Trabzon.//
