Seeing is believing...
One of Van's most important values is its world-famous white cats,
with one blue eye and one yellow eye. So at the Yüzüncü Yıl University
campus where they are under protection, the cats now have three new
pools (!) to swim in at the Van Cat Research & Implementation Center.
Prof. Dr. Abdullah Kaya explained that the cats love to swim and that
"we knew this but didn't have the resources for a pool but
a philanthropic businessman has made it possible for us to teach kittens
how to swim in three pools. This is a first in Turkey and probably in
the world."
Van Governor Murat Zorluoğlu, who presided over the opening of
the pools, noted that he had been at many openings in his time but
this was definitely the first opening of pools for cats that he had
participated in. The Governor and other protocol guests later toured
the pools and had pictures taken with the cats.

Hearing about the Van cats' fancy pool, this one got jealous
and dove in.
When passers-by heard the sound of a cat coming from a well in
the garden of the Religious Faculty of Trabzon's Black Sea
Technical University they requested help from AFAD (search &
rescue.)
Shortly afterwards, a 5-person AFAD team was on the scene
and they retrieved the kitten from the well, alive and well (!).
