'Baba Vanga' and the hordes (that's Attila's grand nephew
 on horseback).

In 1990, as the Cold War ended and Russia found itself at a 

disadvantage in intelligence collection, the Russian Defense 

Ministry chose an alternative method – Unit 10003.   With a 

budget of 100 million rubles (about 200 million USD at the time),

the secret unit was established and Colonel Alexey Yurevich 

Savin was put in charge.  The aim of Unit 10003 was to exploit

paranormal activity and gain information about enemies from 

the predicitons made by people having these powers.

Throughout the Soviet Union experts were sent to find soothsayers

and record their predictions, usually resulting in a correctness range

of between 20% and 50%.   However, there were some diviners 

whose correctness percentage was 90%  and one of these was a 

Bulgarian woman known as ‘Baba Vanga’ (Grandma Vanga), who 

was also called the ‘Balkan Nostradamus’.

 

French Nostradamus...the resemblance to Baba Vanga is uncanny...

(let's check their genes).

Baba Vanga was said to have predicted the start of World War II 

and its consequences, along with the Turkish invasion of Cyprus

and the disintigration of the Soviet Union.  It was said that Adolf 

Hitler visited her and left in a huff.  She was consulted by Russian

experts until her death in 1996. Unit 10003 was so successful that

Yurevich Savin was promoted to general officer rank in 1997.

Among Baba Vanga’s correct predicitons were the Chernobil 

nuclear catastrophe, the 11 September 2001 attacks in the U.S., 

the 2004 tsunami tragedy and the election of the first black as the

44th president  of the U.S.  Nevertheless, Unit 10003 was disbanded

in 2003 because of objections from Russian scholars but  Yurevich

Savin, now retired, continues to run the unit as an academic institution.

Baba Vanga’s predictions continue to ring true, as in the case of the

rise of ISIS and the Syrian civil war.  For 2016 she predicted that 

“Moslems will occupy Europe and the ruin will last for years, 

leading to the eviction of most Europeans from their own countries…”

Here they come again! But from a different direction.

 

       And let us not forget this guy.

Lovesick 'ISIS Bomber''s Girlfriend Turns Him In

He's dressed in ISIS black but just wanted to see his gal.

In Şanlıurfa, something quite remarkable turned up after
Abdulkadir K., on leave from prison, was taken into custody
for being an "ISIS bomber".  Abdulkadir K. was jailed in 2010
for a murder he committed in 2008.  With a third of his sentence
remaining, Abdulkadir K. was transferred to the Akçakale Open
Prison.

Because he is a university student, Abdulkadir K. got leave to
take an exam but as soon as he left the jail he was taken back
into custody on the claim that "he would participate in a suicide
bombing attack in Istanbul as an ISIS member."

Under interrogation Abdulkadir K. admitted that he wasn't really
going to take the exam and had instead bought a bus ticket for
Istanbul.  The Akçakale Gendarmerie Command then ordered a
search of Abdulkadir K.'s home but nothing related to ISIS was
found.

Abdulkadir K. explained that he was planning to go to Istanbul
to see his girlfriend and he asserted that he had no connection to
ISIS.  It turned out that the tip about Abdulkadir K. being an
ISIS suicide bomber had come from his girlfriend (!).

In her statement to police, the unidentified woman stated that when
Abdulkadir K. said he was coming to Istanbul to see her she
thought he was planning to escape from jail so she chose the 'ISIS
bomber' way to prevent him from doing so.



Can't blame the cops - Akçakale district is on Urfa's border with
ISISistan. 

 

Guinness Records: Toilet Paper Record Broken!

                           Wipe Out! 

Yesterday in Istanbul, Metro Markets and the Solo toilet paper
brand, part of the İpek Paper Group, teamed up try to set the
Guinness Book of World Records record in the category entitled
"World's Largest Package Product Display Area". (!)

In light of the measurements taken by Guinness officials and
an impartial notary, Solo toilet paper was declared to be the new
record-holder.  Six months of preparations and 12 hours of
building the display led to the record-setting event, with 21,000
packages of toilet paper used, within a space of 742 square meters.

The amount of toilet paper used would circle the Moon twice and
reach from one end of Turkey to the other 18 times. Ipek Paper
General Manager Sertaç Nişli proudly proclaimed that "we always
try to be the 'first' and the 'most'.


Overly enthusiastic Solo employees TP'd Nişli's fine home to
celebrate. 

Pavlov's Bees Putting Sniffer Dogs Out of Work

                 Sniffers: 'out' and 'in'?

Researchers at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara
have developed a project for the use of honey bees in detecting
narcotics and explosives. Babür Erdem, Okan Can Arslan and Tuğrul
Akpolat are continuing their efforts at the METU Teknokent campus,
and are taking advantage of support from the Indivıdual Young
Enterprise Program of TÜBİTAK (Turkey's national science
organization.)

The project aims to show that honey bees are a thousand times more
sensitive to discriminating the scent of narcotics and explosives than
existing electronic detectors.  And while it takes six months to train
a dog for this work, bees are ready in 15-30 minutes.  This bee
training can easily be reduced to less than 5 minutes.

Honey bees have an exceptional ability to identify scents. So they
are trained using 'Pavlov' conditioning technique.  Bee keepers
condition the honey bees to the scents of explosives and narcotics
at a central facility.  When bees are hungry and touch food with
either their antenna or feet, they reflexively stick out their tongues.

During 'Pavlov' conditioning, the honey bees' antennae touch sugar
at the same time the scent of the target material - narcotics or
explosives - is introduced, to create a dependency for the bee between
the two.  When training is completed the bees only stick out their
tongues when exposed to the scent of the target material.


 TSA could use some bee-hind the scenes help.

Rice Dish With a Side of Lead

          Pilav as one's unexpected last meal.

In Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, a bloody incident occured that will
once again inflame the discussion about whether 'zabıta' (officers
of the municipality who ensure that various laws and ordinances
are complied with.) should be armed.

The incident in question happened the evening before last on
Gürpınar Yolu Avenue.  'Zabıta' Yüksel T. (48), who was
surveying his duty area on foot, began arguing with a 'pilav'
seller (pilav is a boiled rice dish with butter, meat, fat, etc.).
Yüksel T. told the seller to move his cart from the sidewalk.


This is what all the fuss (i.e. death) was about.

As the argument heated up, customer İbrahim Halil Aslan took
the pilav seller's side and said to Yüksel T. "the guy's just trying
to make a living. Leave him alone."  This remark caused Yüksel
T. to focus his wrath on Aslan, who demured and got into his
car to leave.

At this point, Yüksel T. began to take pictures of Aslan's car,
which prompted Aslan to get out of his car.  Yüksel T. began
hurling insults at Aslan and then shot him in the foot.  As Aslan
fell, Yüksel T. shot him 8 more times (!).  Aslan was taken to
the hospital by citizens but could not be saved.

Yüksel T., a retired army sergeant working as a zabıta these days,
fled but was taken into custody shortly afterwards by police.  He
defended his actions, saying "when he punched me I fired."
Aslan's friend Cem Er asserted that Yüksel T. had meant to shoot
him, as well, but his gun jammed.
