Who cares?! Maybe cancer patients need it more (ya think?!)
'Tamoxifen' is the active ingrediant in a medicine used in breast cancer
treatment. Two firms were importing the medicine into Turkey but one
of them withdrew from the market at the beginning of 2017. When the
other firm could not meet demand a crisis erupted, as the stock was
exhausted in May and desperate cancer patients went to the black
market to obtain the drug.
It has now been revealed that much of the stock of the medicine was
bought up by sports salons because body-builders use the drug to
forestall sagging breasts (!). As winter approaches the body-builders
take the drug for 4 weeks as part of a regimen. The Health Ministry
confirmed that the drug, which does not require a prescription, has
been obtained by body-builders. In the last month, although 93,000
boxes of the medicine were imported, the drug cannot be found in
many of Istanbul's districts.
Now, if a bodybuilder has breast cancer he can kill 2 birds
with one stone.
