Claims to have issued no such ban!
The rector of Batman University, Prof. Aydın Durmuş, wrote a warning
letter to the dean of the university's Islamic Knowledge Faculty because
of complaints related to some students' clothing and, in particular, the
"peçe" (black face veil). Durmuş stated in his letter that students wearing
clothing that made it difficult or impossible to identify the individual had
been seen by many witnesses and that this situation was a cause for great
concern.
These 'Batgirls', though, may have to open up a bit.
YÖK (Turkey's highest academic authority) began an investigation of
Batman University about the letter and about Asst. Prof. Davut Okçu of
the Islamic Knowledge Faculty, who leaked the letter on social media.
Okçu was relieved of duty within the scope of the investigation. The
related letter to Okçu from the office of the university rector reads as
follows:
"Based on the offense of transmitting confidential writings
to students, social media and the press and giving cause
to student uprisings, fomenting a hostile attitude toward
the university administration and creating the perception
that university resources are being ill-used, you have been
relieved of duty to protect the soundness of the investigation
concerning you."
