Raziye Hanım Meets the Moment

    Clockwise from left: how not to rob a jewelry store.

Yesterday at about 08:30 in the morning Ahmet T. (19) entered the

jewelry store of Abdullah Koyuncu in the Yazır neighborhood of 

Selçuklu district in Konya city.  As Ahmet T. distracted Abdullah 

bey and his wife Raziye hanım, accomplice Mustafa H. entered 

the store armed with a 'pompalı tüfenk' (pump-action rifle).

Pointing the rifle at Abdullah, the two bandits began to collect gold

from the counter.  However (!), Raziye hanım pointed her own rifle

at Mustafa H., who turned to face Raziye hanım.  At this point,

Abdullah bey grabbed his revolver and shot Mustafa H. in the leg as

Ahmet T. fled.  Mustafa H. was taken to Selçuklu Medical Faculty 

Hospital for treatment and police found Ahmet T. and took him into 

custody.   

                                Don't mess.

Raziye hanım explained that "the thief said 'fill up the sack with 

whatever there is here'.  He tried to get my husband to lie on the 

floor.  We keep a gun in back of the counter.  We've worked here

for years and weren't about to give up our goods easily.  So I 

gathered my courage and pointed a rifle at him.  Then my husband

shot him.  I'd never had a gun in my hand in my life before and 

don't even know how to pull the trigger. (!)  In any event, I wrapped

the thief's wound and gave him water until the health unit workers

arrived." (!!)

As for Abdullah bey, he noted that there had been a robbery attempt

at his store in 2015, as well, when three masked robbers entered

but were dissuaded by Abdullah bey's revolver.
