"Who's gonna give my bees TLC if I'm in the slammer!?"
Özlem K. (22) lives in Söke district of Aydın province. Six years ago
(at age 16!) she married Ünal K. (26), who makes a living as a
beekeeper. The couple had 3 children but soon after marrying, Özlem
hanım began to suffer abuse at the hands of her husband. In March of
this year she filed for divorce.
As the case moved forward, Ünal bey tried to make up with his wife,
declaring that his days of abusing her were over. But last Sunday,
Ünal bey, under the influence of alcohol, went to the house where
Özlem hanım is staying and started an argument that resulted in Ünal
bey beating his wife beyond recognition and cutting her hair off with
a scissors.
Dethroned queen bee
Özlem hanım's neighbors came to her rescue and an ambulance took
her to Söke Fehime Faik Kocagöz State Hospital for treatment. At the
hospital Özlem hanım got a report detailing her injuries and filed a
complaint against Ünal bey with the police.
Police took Ünal bey into custody on charges of abusing and beating
his wife. After processing at the police station, Ünal bey was brought
to the courthouse and then released (!!!). Özlem hanım is staying with
her relatives and the three children are in the care of the state.
