"Wife-killing's as easy in Germany as it is here."

Last year on 22 October in Izmir's Bornova district, Hülya Şellavcı
Yeğin (52), the mother of two children, was shot to death.  Prior to her
death, Hülya hanım had filed four criminal complaints against Kaffar
Yeğin (60) for threatening her and succeeded in getting a restraining
order regarding Yeğin (!).

On 8 November, Yeğin was captured in a friend's home and the gun
used in killing Hülya hanım was recovered there.  At the latest hearing
about the case, the court wanted to know whether Yeğin had previously
killed someone in Germany and asked the Turkish Justice Department
to look into this.

It turned out that Yeğin had been sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in
Germany for murder.  Yet, in the previous court hearing, Yeğin claimed
that he had only been involved in an incident where someone was injured.
Hülya hanım's son-in-law Ensar Aktürk, who is a lawyer, stated that
"his (Yeğin's) friend in Holland said that Yeğin had killed his wife in
Germany with an axe. After Yeğin was captured he asserted that he
didn't kill his wife, but had injured another person.  Nevertheless, it
was determined that Yeğin had, in fact, committed murder (in Germany)."
