Plenty of replacements are awaiting their turn.
The 11th Judicial Reform Package was passed into law by the
Parliament yesterday. Those convicted of crimes committed on or
before July 31, 2023, will be able to benefit from supervised release
rights three years early. Thus, 50,000 releases are expected in the first
phase (!). This right will not apply to terrorism and organized crime,
tragic murders targeting family members or disabled individuals,
sexual assault and abuse, and killings resulting from earthquakes.
Convicts who are in closed correctional facilities for crimes committed
on or before July 31, 2023, and whose total prison sentence is less than
10 years, have served 1 month in these facilities; if their sentence is
10 years or more, have served 3 months, and have 3 years or less
remaining before being transferred to open correctional facilities
according to the relevant legislation, may be transferred to open
correctional facilities. These convicts, as well as convicts in open
correctional facilities for crimes committed on or before
July 31, 2023, may, upon request and provided they have served at
least 3 months in an open correctional facility, benefit from the
application of supervised release measures 3 years earlier.
