                                        Gone fishin'

The stork named Yaren that has been coming to Eskikaraağaç village in
Bursa's Karacabey district since 2010, and whose story has been the
subject of a documentary, has returned again this year to be reunited
with fisherman Adem Yılmaz.

Yaren's story is known the world over and she got her name, which
means 'friend', from the village chief, in light of her 12-year friendship
with Uncle Adem. The pair went fishing together in the morning once
Yaren came back for the 12th time.

Yaren was probably born in 2007 or 2008.  Every year in March she
returns to Eskikaraağaç on the shore of Lake Uluabat  to spend six
months in her nest in the village raising her chicks.  But each morning
Yaren hops on Yılmaz's boat to go fishing with him.

                           She brings her own babies.

This kind of behavior is unusual for a stork.  Photographer Alper
Tüydeş began to take pictıures of Yaren in 2016 and she became the
subject of the documentary in 2019.

There is now a camera trained on Yaren 24/7 so that her activities can
be followed on the internet: www.yarenleylek.com.  Yaren's tryst with
her mate in the village nest in March 2021 and scenes of her guarding
her chicks from the rain that June were followed live.
