Can't stay in jail and can't stay outta trouble either.
In an incident known as the "2. Şule Çet" case in Küçükçekmece,
Istanbul, Ebru Erdem (17) "fell" from the 9th floor of a building to her
death on 20 March 2019. Police determined that Serdar Taş was with
Ebru hanım at the time so he was taken into custody, along with Kemal
Sönmez, who rented the flat to Taş.
Taş was tried in connection with Ebru hanım's death and the public
prosecutor requested a jail sentence of 23 and a half years. In a
hearing concerning the case on 2 July 2021, Taş was sentenced to house
arrest and forbidden from leaving Turkey (!). In any event, Taş remained
in prison on another charge. On 21 September 2021, the court convicted
Taş of sexually harassing Ebru hanım and sentenced him to 8 years more
in jail. He was acquitted of the charge of murdering Ebru hanım for lack
of evidence.
Nevertheless, Taş was released from jail recently (!) and the night before
last he argued with a taxi driver Ferhat Ceylan in Bahçelievler. A fight
ensued between the two and Taş shot Ceylan dead. Taş remains at large.
