"I was expecting the stomach, but this will make for a better
article in a medical journal."

A 45-year-old woman in Istanbul woke up one morning to find her
dental crowns missing. An X-ray at the hospital revealed that a triple
crown bridge had migrated into her lung. Experts warn that such
cases carry a life-threatening risk.

Initially thinking she might have swallowed her teeth, the woman
went to the hospital after researching online. However, tests revealed
a rare condition. A chest X-ray taken at the hospital showed that a
three-denture crown bridge had entered her lungs (!) through her
respiratory tract.

Thoracic Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Levent Alpay stated that they
detected the aspiration of the dental crown in the images and
immediately admitted the patient for treatment.

Speaking to TRT Haber, Prof. Dr. Alpay made the following
statements:

"We saw that the three-toothed crown had been aspirated in the chest
X-ray and immediately admitted the patient. When the patient woke
up in the morning and saw that the teeth were not in her mouth,
she wondered, 'Did I swallow it?' Swallowing is usually a concern
in such cases. It is a very rare occurrence. We generally see these
kinds of cases in childhood; they are rare in adults. It can obstruct
the trachea and create serious problems that threaten the patient's life.
Therefore, these patients require emergency intervention."

Alpay also issued important warnings to those with dental veneers:

"Sometimes these veneers loosen, and the wires can break. In this
case, the risk of aspiration or ingestion increases. Therefore, it is
recommended that those with dental veneers have their dental
check-ups on time." (!)

It could have been worse...
