"I wish I had a watermelon!" - when wishes come true...
Muhittin Alağaş (40) and two friends went to the market in Adana, stole
approximately 600 kilograms of melons and watermelons (!) from two
parked trucks, loaded them onto a light commercial vehicle, and left the
area. Following the incident, which was captured on security camera
footage, the suspect was taken into custody. In his statement, he said,
"We stole the melons and watermelons because they are fast-selling
products." Alağaş was arrested, while the two other suspects are still
being sought.
The incident occurred on May 2nd at around 02:30 AM in the Vedat
Dalokay Market Complex in the Yeşiloba neighborhood of Seyhan
district. Muhittin Alağaş and his two friends drove around for a while
in their light commercial vehicle before going to the market. Alağaş
and his friends climbed onto a parked truck loaded with watermelons
and melons belonging to market vendor Abdullah B. The suspects
stole approximately 600 kilograms of watermelons and melons from
the truck's cargo bed, loaded them onto their vehicle, and then left the
area. Those moments were captured on security camera.
Careful! These melons may be "hot".
The next day, when Abdullah B. arrived at work and discovered the
theft, he reported it to the Public Security Branch Directorate's Theft
and Pickpocketing Bureau. After reviewing security camera footage
from the area and along the route, the teams identified the vehicle's
license plate (!) and determined it belonged to Muhittin Alağaş, who
was located and apprehended during a police raid.
Muhittin Alağaş, who was taken to the police station, stated in his
testimony, “When we saw the melons and watermelons, we decided
to steal them. We stole them because they are quick-selling products.
We sold the melons and watermelons to someone we didn’t know.”
Following the procedures, Muhittin Alağaş was referred to the
courthouse and arrested by the court. It was reported that efforts
to apprehend the other two suspects are ongoing.
