"Vote for me!...Please vote for me."
Menderes Koçak, a resident of the Sandıklı district of Afyonkarahisar
who had run as a candidate in parliamentary, mayoral, and local
headman elections over the past 30 years without ever winning (!), has
passed away.
Menderes Koçak, a farmer residing in the village of Kızılca in the
Sandıklı district, passed away yesterday at Afyonkarahisar State
Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for an illness for
some time.
The candidacy journey of Menderes Koçak, a father of three, began
in 1994 when he ran for village headman (*muhtar*). Koçak ran for
office a total of 19 times—including five bids for mayor of Sandıklı as
an independent, one for Member of Parliament for Afyonkarahisar as
an independent, and twelve for village headman—but never won an
election. Most recently, he stood as an independent candidate for
mayor of Sandıklı in the March 31, 2024, Local Administration
General Elections.
The one election he didn't want to win...
