Five years ago Karabük University inaugurated an open-air museum
and statues depicting Turkish street games from years past like "uzun
eşek", "birdirbir", "körebe", "seksek", "misket" and "ip atlama"
were included.
University Rector Prof. Dr. Refik Polat responded to questions that have
been raised about the cost of the statues. "These are games played since
our childhoods and the new generation is unaware of them. So our aim
is to show these games anew, in connection with Turkish customs, culture
and traditions."
Declining to give cost details, Dr. Polat said it was also important to
use these statues to inform African and other foreign students at the
university about Turkish culture.
