So much for recycling...
On 29 October, police in Istanbul raided a car dealership in
Gaziosmanpaşa, seizing 78 blank-shooting guns, 80 revolver sliding
bolts and 4 machines used for making guns. Three people printing
fake license plates were arrested.
In another raid in Küçükçekmece, 71 revolvers were seized and 2
people arrested. The latest police raid occurred on 12 November,
with 7 people arrested and 1,129 revolvers seized - 91 of them
unlicensed and 1,038 of them blank-shooting guns being converted
into bullet-shooting guns.
These "kullan-at" (use and lose) guns are used in crimes and then
thrown into the sea. Since their cost is just 2,000-4,000 TL
(about $200-$400) they are the preferred gun-of-choice for criminals.
