(Hürriyet Newspaper, 8 December 2023)

The perfect kidnap plan... foiled by a button.

A.D. (35), working as a senior manager in an Izmir firm, broke off a
romantic relationship with driver G.U. (38) because he became overly
obsessed with her.   A.D. filed a related complaint with the police but
G.U. continued to stalk her relentlessly.

G.U. and his friends G.B. (28) and R.K. (30) made a plan to kidnap A.D.,
such that on 31 October they hit A.D.'s car from behind.  When she
alighted from her car A.D. was confronted by G.U., who said "Let's not
call the police.  I'm drunk.  Let's settle this between us."  Coincidentally,
security guard Metin Eroğlu, noticing the confrontation, came over.
Just then, though, G.B. and R. K. joined G.U. and forced A.D. into their
car, stabbing her in her left calf and right knee to persuade her further (!).

Eroğlu tried to intervene but he was stabbed in his shoulder and the
culprits fled with A.D. in their car.  They put their hands on A.D.'s mouth
to prevent her from crying out for help and first took her to Foça, then to
Aliağa.  They phoned a friend in Manisa province and finally took A.D.
to Akhisar.

However (!), availing herself of an opportunity, A.D. pressed the "KADES"
(signal sent to police by women in need of help) button on her phone.
Alerted by this signal to A.D.'s location, local police ordered G.U. to stop
his car.  He didn't and a chase ensued, ending in the apprehension of the
three idiots and A.D.'s release from captivity.  All three idiots were jailed
and both A.D. and Eroğlu were released from hospitals after treatment for
their stab wounds.
