Kol enjoying some baklava: "Tastes great, try some."

While he was being sought for inciting murder, Yüksel Kol killed
a relative in Trabzon's Sürmene district with a Kalashnikov rifle.
Kol has been caught and sentenced to 63 years in prison for the
murder, sexual harassment and kidnapping.

Kol's crime spree began 20 years ago on 7 March 1998 when,
in Istanbul's Gaziosmanpaşa district, Ali Kemal Kol killed Zeki
Bayrak of Trabzon, who was then the warden at the state prison in
Samsun, and wounded Bayrak's deputy.  While Ali Kemal Kol
was sentenced to 36 years in prison for the murder in 2001, Yüksel
Kol was accused of inciting Ali Kemal Kol to commit the murder
and was sentenced to 14 years in jail.

Yüksel Kol, though, disappeared before going to jail but in 2010
he kidnapped a 13-year-old girl named M.K.  Kol had first gone to
M.K.'s house with drugged baklava (!) that he offered to the family.
When they rejected the baklava, Kol left the house but returned
later with friends in ski-masks and kidnapped M.K.  Next, on 25
July 2015, Kol shot his relative Ali Kol in the mouth with a
Kalishnikov rifle in Sürmene district.  A year later, while on the
lam, Kol crossed paths with F.G. who hit Kol over the head. At
the hospital Kol's fake ID got him arrested.

Kol allegedly threatened villagers, saying "I know there are some
in the village who ratted on me.When I find out who they are I'll
shoot them."  However, when Kol came before a judge in Trabzon
he said "I didn't make anyone do anything by force. I even warned
my family 'don't do anything to them'.  I swear, I just wanted to
show the other fellows the (M.K.'s) house.  I apologize to this
girl's family for any trouble I may have caused them. May they
forgive me.  I trust in your justice."

In the end, Kol was sentenced to life in prison for murder, 7 years
for carrying a forbidden weapon, 21 years for sexually exploiting
and kinapping M.K., 4 years for breaking into M.K.'s house, 1
year for damaging property, 6-each years for two other kidnapping
charges and 6-each years for kidnapping 3 women.  The court
did not give Kol any reduction for his good behavior in court (!).

Greek Forces Invade Turkey, Sort Of

türk tarafına dimitris kouklazis ile ilgili görsel sonucu
Greeks bearing no gifts, just pursuing 'yellow snow'.

In Edirne, a Greek Army Lieutenant, Angelos Mitretodis (25),
and an NCO, Dimitris Kouklazis (29), were arrested on charges
of 'military espionage' and 'entering a forbidden military zone',
while they were on patrol near their command post at Kastanies
on the Greek-Turkish border.  Both rejected the charges, asserting
they had mistakenly strayed onto the Turkish side of the frontier.

Lieutenant Mitretodis declared that "would a spy choose snowy
weather?  When we walk we leave a trail in the snow.  We didn't
notice that we had crossed onto the Turkish side.  We were
pursuing illegal migrants and photographed their footprints with
the phone the army gave us.  Then we saw urine stains in the snow
and hurried to catch them but when we saw the Turkish soldiers
we realized we had strayed to the Turkish side."

The Turkish court ordered the two Greek soldiers jailed because
of the possibility they might flee and the Anatolian News Agency
reported that the two soldiers gave contradictory statements so
the investigation has been broadened.  The Greek press speculated
that Turkey may want to use the two jailed Greek soldiers as
bargaining chips vis-a-vis 8 Turkish soldiers who fled to Greece
after the aborted July 2016 coup attempt in Turkey.

No Good Dog-Loving Deed Goes Unpunished...

(HaberTürk Newspaper, 3 March 2018)

Trabzon
              The loveable center of attention.

In Trabzon, Osman Demir found a Kangal dog in front of his house
and took the animal in.  The resulting "Kangal fight" began in the
Kaşüstü neighborhood a year ago.  Demir began looking after the
dog, which he assumed to be ownerless, and even tried to find out
who the owner might be, having it announced from the local
mosque.

At this point, Deniz E. appeared on the scene to declare that he was
the rightful owner of the dog.  Demir, though, didn't believe this and
an argument started.  Subsequently, Deniz E. spray-painted Demir's
car and scratched it, as well, breaking the car's windows and slashing
the tires.

Faced with this onslaught, Demir was willing to give up the dog but
Deniz E. wanted 5,000 TL, too, asserting that Demir had kidnapped
the dog.  Demir resisted and filed a complaint with police, noting
that his car had been damaged to the tune of 17,000 TL.  Public
prosecutor Dilek Öner filed a case against Deniz E. for "damage to
property, insults and threats", which carried a jail sentence of from
1 to 7 years.

Mystery Shrouds Ex-Mosul Governor's Fate

Eski Musul Valisine İstanbulda fidye tuzağı... 16 aydır haber yok
Not sure if the priest is part of the ransom gang or not...

The former governor of Mosul, Iraq, Faisal Al Yawar, was
invited to a conference in Istanbul a year and a half ago but
was kidnapped.  Prior to the occupation of Mosul by ISIS,
Faisal Al Yawar served in the governor's office there but
resigned.  Because of visa problems associated with the
tumult in Egypt, he could not participate in the Gulf Research
& Development Conference in Egypt in 2016, to which he
had been invited by a ransom gang (!), so he went to Istanbul
for what he thought would be an alternative conference.

On 22 October Al Yawar arrived at Atatürk Airport. Shortly
afterwards, Al Yawar called a friend in Kerkük, saying that an
individual named Ebu Ömer would come from Baghdad to
collect $150,000 from the friend in Kerkük.  Al Yawar's
family was notified and they called the supposed conference
firm in Istanbul to check on Al Yawar's situation, but in vain.

The Iraqi Consulate General in Istanbul notified the Turkish
Foreign Ministry, Turkish intelligence and Istanbul police,
who learned that one of the ransom gang members had been
arrested in Iraq.  Police have asked Iraqi authorities to send
the arrested suspect to Istanbul for questioning.  It remains
uncertain whether or not Al Yawar is still alive.

Religious wrestling trainer Abdulaziz A.

A Turkish family in Germany entrusted their 17-year-old
daughter M.T.K., who has a drug problem, to Abdulaziz A. in
Bursa for religious training.  Abdulaziz A. (40), who is married
and has two children, took the girl to his sister's house in Bursa
and sexually assaulted her three times.  Abdulaziz A. locked
the door to the house and left but the girl escaped through the
first-floor window and alerted her family to the situation. Police
arrested Abdulaziz A.

In her statement to police, M.T.K. explained that "he took me
to his sister's house and began to wrestle with me (!).  Then he
sexually assaulted me three times, saying that we should keep
this just between us."  As for suspect Abdulaziz A., he said
that "she agreed to stay in my sister's house that night.  While
we were wrestling (!) she excited me and then we had sexual
relations with her consent."  Abdulaziz now faces 46 years
in prison for sexually assaulting a minor and kidnapping.

Do you get interest on gold you hold for 7 years?

In Kayseri, Meryem Ç. was flabbergasted to get a note from her
neighbor M.K., who had attended her daughter's wedding 7 years
ago, saying that he wanted the gold he gave as a wedding present
back.  Explaining why, M.K. said that he was left hopeless because
his 38-year-old son has still not married and the prospect of a
wedding is nil.

Meryem Ç., originally from Trabzon, married off her daughter
Ayşe 7 years ago.  In his note to Meryem Ç. asking for the gold
back, M.K. wrote "Meryem Hanım, I had wanted to send this letter
to invite you to my son's wedding but although he is now 38 he
does not want to get married.  Whatever I did to forestall this
situation has not worked.  I would be pleased if you would return
the gold I gave to your daughter at her wedding and I wish you
and your family well."

Meryem Ç. called M.K. to make sure this was not a joke and
being assured that M.K. was serious, she had her son Murat Ç.
get the equivalent gold piece from a jeweler and give it to M.K.
Murat Ç. commented that "I know that M.K.'s family is not in
a bad economic situation so it means that the gold they gave to
my sister was given in trust and not as a gift.  When his own
child did not marry he wanted it back so I gave it to him."
