Once upon a time there was a bridge...

Ziya K., asserting that the historic "Gömleksiz Köprüsü" bridge in
Ankara "is mine" (!) sold it for 60,000 TL (about $1,850), calling to mind
a fellow nicknamed "Sülün Osman" ("sülün" means a brisk, lively little
man) who years ago also sold state goods as if they were his own to dupes.

When Ziya K. was brought to court for his punishment he asked for time
to pay his debt to society, but he was ordered to pay 140,000 TL (about
$4,200) by the time of the case's next hearing on 8 May.

In 2022, Gendarmerie troops on patrol in Beypazarı district of Ankara
noticed that the "Gömleksiz Köprüsü" bridge was missing (!).  This
prompted the Gendarmerie to write to the Highways General Directorate
(HGD), asking "did you remove the bridge?".  A negative reply from HGD
started an investigation by which the Gendarmerie learned that the bridge
had been dismantled in a week's time, with the iron and other parts carted
away in trucks.  It turned out that Ziya K. told junkman Y.Ç. that "they
gave me the bridge." (!)

At the first hearing of the case on 6 March, Ziya K. asked to make good
on his debt but noted that "we didn't do anything in secret.  I asked the
government to give me the bridge and assumed I'd get a positive response."
Unimpressed, the court ordered Ziya K. to pay the HGD 140,000 TL by
8 May.

As for junkman Y.Ç., he "explained" that "I'm a junkman so I sold the
iron that came from the bridge.  Ziya K. told me that HGD gave him the
bridge so I sent him 60,000 TL via the account of D.K." (!)

Ziya K.'s role model...
