In Ataşehir, Istanbul, 7 batteries were stolen from parked cars between
14-22 May.  Based on complaints, police reviewed street camera video
footage and saw that two people had come in a car and stolen the
batteries.  The license plate of the suspects' car was traced by police to
a woman named G.N.G., who had rented it.

Police went to G.N.G. hanım's home and learned from her that her
husband Mücahit Güllü had used the car on the dates of the theft
incidents.  Mücahit bey was then taken into custody, along with his
partner in crime Mertcan Ünver.  Both of them have long police records.
After processing at the police station the suspects were jailed.

Attacker Erhan A.: "It's a hobby of mine."

In Esenyurt, Istanbul, Turan Kara (52) was chatting with friends in
front of their workplace at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon on 15 May.
Just then, someone stealthily approached Kara from the rear, grabbed
his ear and cut it with a knife. (!)

In great pain, Kara held on to his cut ear, while the attacker fled. Kara's
friends brought him to a hospital, where the ear was reattached.  Next,
Kara went to the police station to file a criminal complaint.  In his
statement he said that "I was chatting with my friends when I felt a
hand on my ear.  Without even having a chance to turn my head, the
pain hit me, my ear fell to the ground and blood began to flow. We
went to the hospital right away and the ear was sewn back on. It's
unclear whether it will heal properly and right now I'm having hearing
problems.  I'm filing a complaint against the person who cut my ear off."

Based on security camera footage, police identified the attacker as

TNT Ukraine War Edition: Turkish Fishermen Stray Into "Russian" Waters, Off Crimea

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 29 May 2022)

They found a storm in a port.

Two Turkish fishing vessels, one out of Gemlik and the other out of
Sarıyer, entered the Black Sea on 15 May to hunt for "kalkan" (turbot).
There were 12 fishermen on the boats and they had a bountiful catch
off the Crimean peninsula, snaring about 1,500 "kalkan".

On 18 May, the two boats approached nearer to the Crimean shore to
continue fishing, prompting a Russian warship to intervene and take
the boats and crews into custody.   As the fishermen alerted their kin
about the situation by satellite telephone, they and their boats were
brought toward Sevastopol, escorted by the Russian warship.

Ugly, yes. But what do they think of us?

Both vessels were seized by the Russians and the fishermen were
forced to pay a $30,000 fine (called a 'donation' in Russian).  They
remain on their boats as they await a court date.

However (!), Yaşar Sert, the chief of the Rumelifeneri Maritime
Products Cooperative, noted that neither of the fishing boats is
registered or licensed and that they were fishing illegally.
Nevertheless, the Turkish Foreign Ministry is undertaking diplomatic
efforts to return the fishermen to Turkey.

"Beat & Release": Hospital Louts Charm Court and Go Scot-Free, in Ankara

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 28 May 2022)

They've got the best medical plan around.

Sefa Yusuf Selbi and his friend Süleyman Kıymaz took Selbi's ill mother
to a hospital in Ankara on 28 November 28 November 2021.  The nurse
warned them about social distancing required because of COVID and
this enraged Selbi such that he screamed "I'll kill you! You've made
blood flow from my mother, so I'll make your blood flow too!"

Selbi and Kımaz then proceeded to beat hospital workers and damage
medical equipment, as their friends İsmail Aydın and Mertcan Kıymaz
joined in the mayhem.  The Ankara public prosecutor had the suspects
jailed and asked the court for a 53-year sentence for Selbi, 28 years for
Kıymaz and 4 years for the other two.

However (!), the court has now given the suspects the minimum
sentences, awarded them "good behavior reductions" and has ultimately
turned the jail sentences into fines.  As icing on the cake, the court
looked favorably on the suspects' "personalities" (!) and declared that if
they stay clean for five years all the sentences and fines will be voided,
without any judicial supervision during that time either.  (!)

The plaintiff's lawyer Soner Aslan lamented that the court's decision
"amounted to an award for the suspects and serves to incite attacks
on hospital workers."

girlfriend, so he intervened to rescue the damsel in distress.

A fight between Çelik and Seyrek ensued, during which Seyrek bit

a seagull came along and snatched the ear part. (!)

Çelik filed a complaint against Seyrek and yesterday, 6 years later,
the case continued but neither Seyrek nor his lawyer showed up.
The court ordered Seyrek to be forcibly brought to court for the

"Breaking Bad Alaturka" & Huge Meth Seizure, in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 26 May 2022)

Baron doesn't look so good - eating up the profits?

Five months ago, narcotics police in Istanbul launched an operation
against drug deliverers know as "torbacılar", who were carrying
methamphetamines, and jailed them.  An investigation of the "torbacılar"
led police to a number of Iranians and a raid in April resulted in the
seizure of 15 kilograms of the drug and more leads.

Police determined that the drug gang's headquarters was a villa in
a wooded area of the Beykoz section of Istanbul and that the gang
leader was Iranian R.K., who was importing the raw material for the
methamphetamines from Iran and Europe inside TIRs (cargo tractor
trailers).  In order to transform the raw material to the drug itself,
a chemist was brought in from Iran.

                    Iranian chemist, in happier times.

On 19 May, police found 170 kilograms of methamphetamines in a
car they stopped and again a number of Iranians were arrested.
'Baron' R.K. got word that police were closing in on him so he fled the
villa in a car.  But police tailed R.K. to the Merter section of the city,
where he got out of the car with an attaché case filled with drugs and
was taken into custody.  Simultaneously, police raided the villa in
Beykoz and took 4 people into custody.

In the villa, sniffer dogs found 1 ton, 117 kilograms of crystal and liquid
methamphetamine drugs and 123 kilograms of liquid chemicals used
in making the drug.  Three other separate raids yielded more of the
drugs, making the total seizure 1 ton, 317 kilograms, the most ever
seized in Turkey surpassing the 1 ton, 18 kilograms seized at the
Gürbulak border gate on the Iranian border in March.  On the street,
methamphetamines sell for 125,000 TL (about $7,600) per kilogram,
making the value of the seized drugs worth 139,625,000 (about $8.5
million).

Her fierce guard dog proved to be no help at all.

Fide Uyarlar (42) was working as the general coordinator for a company
in Istanbul when her father took ill in Adana.  So Fide hanım moved into
a flat in the Gürselpaşa neighborhood of Adana's Seyhan district.  Last
month, while walking her dog in the apartment's garden she met Gökhan
K. (45) and began to greet and chat with him during the dog walks.

However (!), soon after Gökhan K. sexually assaulted Fida hanım,
entered her flat and held her hostage there for a number of days,
breaking her arm, as well.  The other day, Gökhan K. followed Fida
hanım and sexually assaulted her as she was getting into the building's
elevator.  In self-defense, Fida hanım slapped Gökhan K. and this was
captured on the building's security camera.

Fida hanım went to the police station and filed a criminal complaint
against Gökhan K., who also filed a complaint because of the slap in
the elevator.  Most recently, on 22 May, Gökhan K. forcibly entered
Fida hanım's flat via the balcony.  She screamed but no one heard her.

Nevertheless, thanks to the camera Fida hanım had put in her living
room, the attack was recorded on video.  When Gökhan K. finally
left the flat in the morning, Fida hanım went with the video footage
to the police station, after which Gökhan K. was apprehended in his
home and taken to jail.

village in Kumluca district.  As they were all returning in the evening,
Recep bey got out of his car to relieve himself but he lost his balance

Ali bey and Seval hanım stopped their car.

save Recep bey, whose legs were broken.  Seval hanım could not be
reached by land so the Coast Guard was summoned and a team found
Seval hanım's body at the base of the cliff.  With great difficulty, Seval
hanım's body was taken to the Antalya morgue and, later, back to

In Alanya, an argument erupted between Oleksiy Olesksiyovych
Navrotsky (38) and his wife Y.N., who both fled the war in Ukraine
with their children, the day before yesterday at around 8 o'clock in the
morning in their hotel room.  As the argument intensified, Navrotsky
attacked his wife, daughter T.N. (6) and son K.N. (4) with a knife,
killing both children.

Y.N. escaped to another room, while Navrotsky wrote a suicide note
and tried to kill himself, unsuccessfully.  He was taken into custody
by police and in his statement, he explained through a translator that
he didn't remember the incident because of the medicine he is taking
for psychological problems.  Nevertheless, Navrotsky was sent to
the Alanya prison for "murder with intent to kill".

Navrotsky and his family had first gone to Italy when the Ukraine-
Russia war broke out and then came to Alanya a month and a half
ago.  He is a former parliamentarian from Kharkiv and taught
economics at a university there before the war.

Turkish Air Carriers Will Ease Russia's Summer Tourism Fever, as of 1 June

Russian yachts in Turkey click here for seaborne
Russian tourism to Turkey reporting.

                        No Finns or Swedes allowed.

As the tourism season approaches, Russia has a shortage of airplanes
for tourists because of Western sanctions, so it has given over two-
thirds of it flights to Turkey.  The newspaper "Rus Kommersant"
explained that "as the result of pressure from the tourism sector and
the social tensions in Russia, the Russian government has opened the
doors to Turkish air carriers."

"As of 1 June, a quota of 438 flights per week will be allotted to
Turkish air carriers for flights to Russia, whereas the quota
for Russian air carriers will be just 177 flights per week to Turkey.
This development in Turkey's favor is linked to Western sanctions
imposed against Russia because of the war in Ukraine.  Since the
Airbus and Boeing airplanes leased by Russia have been reclaimed
by their owners, there is a shortage of airplanes in Russia right now."

"There remains a risk for Russian flights to Turkey that connect at
other airports.  As Russia has turned over the bulk of air tourist
travel to Turkey for the summer season, Moscow has asked for a
guarantee from Ankara that its airplanes will not be seized at
Turkish airports."

More than 10,000 different kinds of economic sanctions have been
imposed against Russia because of the Ukraine war, prompting
Moscow to reevaluate its tourism sector.  In 2021, even with the
COVID pandemic raging, Russia sent 4.7 million tourists to Turkey
but this year that number will drop to 3 million, according to tourism
sector experts.

"Rus Kommersant" reported that right now the cost of a round-trip
ticket to Turkey is 100,000 rubles, about 26,000 TL ($1,600).  With
the increase of flights as of 1 June, this price is expected to drop to
30,000 rubles, or 8,000 TL ($500).

As always, the Turkish word for "sanctions" is "welcome!".

Making "cattle class" look like first class.

Illegal migrants coming into Turkey from Iran and putting their lives in
danger to avoid capture by Turkish security forces.  In this regard,
police set up a checkpoint at the Hamuryen intersection 5 kilometers
from Van's Erciş district center and stopped two old model buses
they considered suspicious, both of them with Istanbul license plates.

During the ensuing searches, police found secret 6.5 square meter
compartments in each bus.  When the compartments were opened
47 (!)  Afghani, Pakistani and Bangladeshi migrants spilled out.  The
police were understandably amazed by this scene and the migrants
themselves were exhausted by their nearly airless confinement.

Inspired by Western decadence, as usual.

The illegal migrants were taken to Erciş police headquarters and
M.G.T, R.T. and T.C. were taken into custody for human trafficking.

report about this hoodwinking technique.

                                 Thanks, but no thanks.

Şükran Candan (55), the mother of four children, lives in Yüzüncüyıl
village in Adana's Çukurova district.  On 8 March, she received flowers
on the occasion of World Women's Day and signed for them on a blank
form.  Not knowing who sent the flowers, Şükran hanım asked her
children but they all claimed no knowledge of the flowers or the sender.

In a panic, Şükran hanım called the florist, asked for the paper she
had signed and received it.  In April, Nuray F., Şükran hanım's renter
Halil B.'s girlfriend, had come for coffee to Şükran hanım's house and
warned her that Halil B. was a swindler, saying "did Halil give you a
promissory note to sign?"  (!)

On 25 April, Şükran hanım and her daughter checked her records in
the government's "E-Devlet" citizens' system and saw a debt file
in her name so she went to see her lawyer.  Şükran hanım learned that
because of the $95,000 promissory note she had ""signed", Halil B.
was claiming her summer house, five houses, a car and a motorcycle
as compensation.

                                   "Gentleman" Halil B.

When Şükran hanım's family called Halil B. he said that "I gave your
mother $95,000."  The police were contacted and the seizures halted.
It turned out that Halil B. and Nuray F. had bilked many other people
with the same "window" technique. In this regard, Şükran hanım said
that "my entire wealth is in sequestration, worth about 1.5 million TL.
All I did was sign for flowers but they had put the dollar promissory
note underneath it.  I didn't get any dollars or any other money."

In order to halt the sequestration, Şükran hanım had to borrow 150,000
TL from relatives.  She noted that "I was able to get the money to halt
the sequestration in a day.  When my son called Halil he said 'I gave
your mother $95,000.'   I'm owed a lot from him, not the other way
around. This has to be solved right away.  There are many victims like
me.  The case is continuing in court. My only wealth is these homes,
where my children live.  I'm awaiting help."

In Diyarbakır in February 2021, Emine Karakaş (15) refused to become
the "kuma" (spare wife) of her cousin Aslan Karakaş (32), the married
father of 7 children (!),  so he killed her.  According to the indictment,
when Emine declined the proposal because of her youth and blood
relationship to Aslan bey, he began to nurture hatred toward her and her
family.

On the day of the murder, Emine headed toward Batman for a day of
shopping with her family.  On the pretext of wanting to chat, Aslan
bey's older sister Münevver cut off  Emine hanım's family car.
Realizing they were about to be attacked, Emine's family quickly
took off but Aslan began firing with a Kalashnikov rifle. Emine
was hit by one of the 18 bullets fired and spent four months in intensive
care before she died.

Aslan bey fled the scene, but after 161 days on the run, he surrendered
to the Gendarmerie on 15 July 2021.  The day before yesterday, Aslan
bey and his older sister Münavver hanım were charged with "intending

The rector of Gaziantep University, Prof. Dr. Arif Özaydın, has had the
signs in front of the locker rooms at the Gaünsporium sports center
changed from "soyunma odası" (undressing room) to "giyinme odası"
(dressing room) after 10 years.  In their places, Özaydın has had signs
for men's and women's "dressing rooms".  (!)

At an event at the university where President Erdoğan's son Bilal
Erdoğan was the guest speaker, Özaydın displayed the announcement
of the semantic change, which he called a "great implementation", on a
big TV screen.  (!)

The students at the event were taken aback by this announcement,
which was soundly ridiculed on social media. "Santa Cruz University

discovered that tomatoes can be beneficial in preventing strokes.  At
Gaziantep University the locker room signs have been changed from

Meanwhile, Hasan Şencan, a CHP (opposition party) chief from the
Şahinbey municipality in Gaziantep noted that "Gaziantep University

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 15 May 2022)

Final resting place of "honor" - bottom of an elevator shaft.

When Uğur Kahraman (30) and his wife Ezgi got divorced two years
ago the court awarded custody of their two daughters to Uğur bey.
Meanwhile, Ezgi hanım moved to Adıyaman, remarried but committed
suicide last year.

On 26 April, Uğur bey's father was unable to reach his son so he called
the police, worried about Uğur bey's safety.  Police looked at video and
telephone records and noted that Uğur bey had met with his former
father-in-law Hüseyin Sezer on that day, after which the two went to
Sezer's home.

Under questioning, Sezer denied knowing anything about his former
son-in-law's disappearance but on the last day of his interrogation, he
admitted that "I saw him from time to time because he had custody of
my grandchildren.  When he threatened not to let me see them we
argued and then I shot him.  I put his body in a barrel and kept the
barrel in my garden for a while.  After that, I put the barrel in the
elevator shaft of my family's home in Pendik."

Police subsequently found Uğur bey's body in the barrel.  As Sezer
was being taken to jail he told reporters "He's the guy who dragged
my daughter into the drugs and prostitution that killed her.  I killed
him for the honor of my daughter and my grandchildren."

"Beat & Release": Value of a Life Drops to 13 TL (85 U.S. Cents) Over Drops of Water, in Konya

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 13 May 2022)

Water, water everywhere...but not a drop for free.

The horrific incident occurred in the garden of a 2-story house on Yaz
Street in Konya's Meram district.  Welder Hüseyin Mahir (31) was using
a water meter in tandem with his mother's renter Mevlüt Kapan (35).
The bill for the water usage came to 66 TL (a bit more than $4) so Mahir
and Kapan split the payment but Mahir claimed that Kapan came up
13 TL (about 85 U.S. cents) short for his end of the payment.

An argument ensued, during which Mahir shot Kapan in the groin with
a rifle, killing him.  Mahir, who has a record of 4 previous crimes, was
charged with murder and jailed.  Kapan's wife Havva lamented that
their three children, İsmail Kerim (9), Ahmet Semih (6) and Ayşe Nisa
(1) were now fatherless.  After seeing her husband killed in front of her
eyes, Havva hanım said that "we were paying the water bill equally.
They got into a fight and I heard my husband moan. He was lying face
down and asked for my blessing."

Havva hanım noted that "the house where we were living was going
to be torn down so we had to move.  Since we don't have a car, we had
to move somewhere close to my husband's workplace.  A friend's wife
suggested this house, saying that she knew the owner, who was nice to
us at first.  My husband, though, told her upfront that 'if I'm paying
rent, you can't interfere with my comings and goings.'  He painted the
place with his friends all night long."

                                Watering (black) hole.

As time went by, homeowner Fatma Mahir began to complain about
the Kapan's placement of items in the house, their children playing
in the garden and the noise resulting from wood stacked on the
balcony.  Havva hanım related all this to Fatma hanım's son Hüseyin
Mahir and claimed that he sided with them, rather than his mother.

However (!) Havva hanım added that "the homeowner was watering
the garden in the back of our house, where she had planted some
things.  Then the 66 TL water bill came.  We had been paying it
equally but then Mevlüt said to me 'they're watering the garden so
I'm only going to pay a third of the bill from now on. I'll give them
15 TL this time.'   Mevlüt later added another 5 TL for his share of
the water bill but then he argued with the homeowner's son."

In his statement to the police, Hüseyin Mahir explained that "the day
before we'd had an argument because he was short on his end of the
water bill.  So that day I went to his house with my rifle.  We argued
again and I shot him."  Mahir was charged with "murder with intent to
kill and wound" and jailed.

TNT Road Rage Edition: Six Taxi Drivers in Bat-Scimitar Attack on Customer, in Istanbul

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 12 May 2022)

                                 Post-ouch recovery.

Olcayto Okur and his friends got into a taxi at the Samandıra metro
station at 2330 hours on the night of 6 April in order to go to work.
According to Okur, the taxi driver thought that a black bag in the hand
of his friend contained alcohol so he screamed "are you drinking alcohol
during the holy month of Ramazan??!!  Get out of my taxi!!"

Okur and his friends got out of the taxi and boarded another one but
the first taxi driver said that he would file a police complaint against
them.  It turned out that the second taxi driver was the first's older
brother (!) so Okur and his friends had to get out of that taxi, too
after an argument with the second driver.  (!)

At this point, Okur left his friends and began to walk down the street.
However, he was pursued and attacked by six taxi drivers brandishing
bats and scimitars.  Beaten into unconsciousness, the drivers left Okur
for dead.  But he came to in a pool of blood and noticed that his wallet
was gone.

Based on Okur's complaint, the public prosecutor filed charges against
driver brothers İrfan and Ayhan Karakaya.  Statements were taken from
the other drivers involved in the incident.  İrfan Karakaya explained
that "Okur and his friends wanted to drink alcohol in my taxi. When I
said no they got out and I went off elsewhere."  Brother Ayhan Karakaya
told police that "they were cursing at another taxi driver and I said 'I
won't allow drinking alcohol' so they began to insult me, too.  When
they got out of my taxi they came on to me so I swung the bat in my
hand to protect myself."

Ayhan Karakaya was jailed, while his brother İrfan was released on
condition that he not leave the country and sign in at a police station.

As for Okur, he stated that "I tried to appease them but in vain.  Six
of them attacked me with bats and scimitars.  They stole my money
and left me for dead.  I called an ambulance when I awoke and spent
four days in the hospital.  I got a report confirming that I did not have
alcohol in my system at the time of the incident.  Such people ought
not be allowed in society.  In the first place, we're their customers so
they are betraying their profession."

According to a suit filed in Istanbul's family court, F.D. (44), who works
as a cleaner, married A.D. (36) in 2003.  The couple brought four
children into the world but F.D. heard from others that the 13-year-old
and the 6-year-old children were fathered by someone else. (!)

When F.D. confronted his wife A.D. with this allegation she confirmed
it, prompting quite a shock in F.D.  A. D. confessed that the 13-year-old
girl had been fathered by her sister's husband and the 6-year-old boy
had been fathered by F.D.'s uncle.  (!!)

F.D. applied to the family court to determine whether or not the children
were his or not, in relation to his decision to strip them of his surname
if it turned out he was not their father.  DNA results from the court's
forensic lab confirmed that the fathers of the two children in question
was not F.D., prompting him to file for divorce from A.D., accusing
her of adultery, and demanding 100,000 TL in compensation and
custody of his two children.

For her part, A.D. said that she loved her husband and that their
marriage could continue, but since their respective families had
intervened (!) this would not be possible.  It turned out that A.D. had
run off with F.D.'s uncle at one point, resulting in the conception of
the younger child.  The court granted F.D. the divorce and ordered
A.D. to pay him 50,000 TL in compensation.
