High-tech peeping scales new heights.
The suspect who flew a remotely controlled drone outfitted
with a camera near the windows of the Atatürk Female Students
Dormatory in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, has been captured. The drone
was noticed by students in another block of the dormatory as it
hovered near the window of one of the 3,500 students in the dorm.
The drone-sighting stoked panic among the students and put the
police on the trail of the peeper. After viewing security camera footage
the police isolated pictures of the suspect and determined that he was
M.AE. (29), a food counter worker. M.A.E. was taken into custody
yesterday.
'Tom'
In his statement to police, M.A.E. refuted the charge that he was
sexually harassing the girls in the dorm, claiming that his drone is
just a hobby. He claimed that on the day of the incident, as his drone
was flying, some of the girls waved at him, prompting him to think
that "this was an invitation. So I flew the drone over that way but I
didn't record anything."
M.A.E. was released but his drone was delivered to the cyber police
team to determine whether or not any views of the dorm had been
recorded.

What would their Beverly Hills counterparts think!
Police in Izmir looked into a recent spate of robberies in the
Bayraklı, Bornova, Çiğli, Karabağlar, Buca and Bayındır

used in all 10 robberies. Immediately after the home owner
left the house the thieves entered by using a bank card to
jimmy open the door and rifled through the drawers in the
bedrooms for jewelry.
Video footage from hundreds of cameras in the various
neighborhoods were looked at by police, who identified 5
women as suspects. The vehile used by the women was also
identified by police and led them to Salihli district of Manisa
province.
Vehicle owner Kemal Y. had taken the women, identified
at Salihli housewives Aslı A., Ayşe A., Sibel Y., Nazan A.
and Yasemin Ö,, to Izmir on particular dates. Police then
raided 7 separate addresses and arrested the women, all of
whom had previous police records for theft. Kemal Y. was
also arrested.

Be careful what you wish for...
There were some interesting scenes from a dispute between two
drivers at the Mahmutbey toll booths in Istanbul. The dispute
arose between the driver of a city bus (Ralf Kramdenoğlu) and
the driver of a private car over who would yield right of way.
As the argument heated up, the driver of the car, which had no
license plate (!), began to beat on the door of the bus, demanding
that the bus driver get out and fight him. Passengers on the bus
tried to calm the car driver but he entered the bus and attacked
the bus driver.
However, the bus driver then soundly pounded the car driver with
his fists, forcing the passengers to come to the car driver's rescue.
After the two were separated and the car driver returned to his car,
a passenger asked him teasingly "you got a beating. Are you glad?"
In response the car driver said "yes, I'm glad." The fight was
captured on video by one of the passengers.

Med school training aid...hmmm, a likely story.
The murder squad of the Uşak police investigated all the homes
and apartments on Müjde street in the Ünalan neighborhood the
night before last after cleaners found a skull in a garbage bin.
The police spoke with people in the neighborhood who threw out
garbage and determined that a thorough cleaning effort was
undertaken at an apartment building about 100 meters away from
where the skull was found.
Erkan Kurtalan, one of the building residents who works as a
urologist in a private hospital, told police that years before when
he was a medical student at Marmara University in Istanbul a
friend had given him a skull to use in training. Kurtalan explained
that he had hidden the skull in the apartment's coal storage bin but
then forgot about it (!).
Tuğlu Yaşar told police that while he was cleaning the apartment
building he found the skull among other items. Both Kurtalan and
Yaşar were brought to the Karaağaç police station to give statements.
Meanwhile, the public prosecutor has sent the skull to the police
forensic lab in Istanbul for examination.

'Teachers Day' Roiled by Rowdy Teachers

One teacher who learns lessons the hard way.
For Teachers Day on 24 November, the CHP (Republican Peoples
Party), which runs the Gaziemir municipality in Izmir, organized
an event for teachers of the district at a local hotel. In attendance
were Gaziemir District Chief Yaşar Dönmez and District Education
Director Aydın Usman.
Gaziemir Mayor Halil İbrahim Şenol came to the podium to make
some remarks but he couldn't be heard above the noise in the room,
which prompted some of the teachers to upbraid their colleagues:
"you're making too much noise! We want to hear each other. You're
educators so please be a bit more respectful."
The noise-making teachers, though, responded by saying "we're
supposed to learn about talking and respect from you?!" They then
left the hall. The atmosphere became tense and an argument erupted
between the municipal staff and the teachers. Barış Düdü, a local
teacher and teachers union leader, screamed at Mayor Şenol
"terbiyesiz!" (you lout!).
Taking exception to this remark, Şenol's former chief of staff and
current Deputy Mayor Mehmet Tuncer yelled back at Düdü "Hey you!
You can't say 'terbiyesiz' to my mayor! Who do you think you are?!
We paid for the food you're eating tonight!" Tuncer then head-butted
Düdü, breaking his nose and leaving Düdü with blood all over his face.
Head-butter Tuncer wouldn't hurt a butterfly...
Düdü then grabbed the microphone from Mayor Şenol and screamed
"Honored Mayor! Get control of the dogs you brought with you! The
teachers here are being scolded and beaten. And you're not saying
anything about it!"
Düdü filed a complaint against Tuncer and added that "the person who
did this to me is not human. Such a thing cannot be done on Teachers
Day. I won't let this rest!" As for Mayor Şenol, he condemned Tuncer's
attack on Düdü and apologized on behalf of his staff. He promised to
look into the matter.
