                                    One-stop-shopping.

Arzum Koyuncu, famous astrologer, writer and life coach, has filed a
criminal complaint with the Istanbul public prosecutor regarding Erken
Şavkın, whom Arzum hanım met with to discuss social media issues.

According to Azrum hanım, after giving Şavkın 2,000 TL (about $250),
he did no work for her.  However (!), Arzum hanım claims that Şavkın
somehow obtained her email password and stole her telephone list. One
of the phone numbers was that of Arzum hanım's friend Burcu P., who
lives in France.

Şavkın then posted Burcu P.'s phone number on social media as if Arzum
hanım had, with this message: "This is the number of my assistant Burcu.
She's an escort. Give her a call."  Şavkın then opened a fake social media
account, as if Arzum hanım was an escort herself.

The court ordered that Şavkın stay away from Arzum hanım for 1 month.(!)

Employee Planned to Spike Boss's Tea With COVID Spit in Adana

türkçe  links to original Turkish article

(Milliyet Newspaper, 30 July 2021)

Good thing the boss is a documented coffee-drinker.

In Adana, Ramazan Çimen paid 500 TL for spit from a COVID patient
in order to put the spit in his boss's tea. Last September, İbrahim Ünverdi,
who runs a car dealership, gave Çimen 215,000 TL from a car sale to
bring back to the dealership office.

However (!), Çimen disappeared with the money.  A few days later,
Çimen explained to Ünverdi over the phone that he used the money to
pay off a loan shark and hung up.  Ünverdi then learned from his other
employees that Çimen had bought the COVID spit and planned to put
it in Ünverdi's tea.

Çimen began sending threatening messages to Ünverdi and his family,
including this one: "I couldn't kill you with COVID but I'll shoot you
in the head instead."  On 10 February 2021, Çiman was taken into
custody and given house arrest. Ünverdi's lawyer filed a criminal
complaint saying the Çimen planned to kill Ünverdi with a "biological
weapon."   As a result, Çimen was arrested on 14 July and jailed.

TNT History Archives: French Airplane En Route to Australia, Graffiti'd by Turks in French-occupied Cilicia (1919)

French Col. Abadie, a participant in the French occupation of Cilicia in
south-central Anatolia in 1919, wrote an account of the operation in 1921
and mentioned some of the indicators of local Turkish displeasure with
the French occupation.

One of the incidents Col. Abadie took note of was this one:

"3 November 1919: Airmen Poulet and Benoist landed in Konya on their
way to Australia.  Their airplane was guarded by Turkish soldiers.  They
landed near Tarsus next and saw that during the night someone had
written this message in Turkish on their airplane: “be bold, but don’t be
despicable like the Syrians.”"  - evidently meaning the French troops that
had come from Syria to Cilicia.

Background: French pilot Etienne Poulet and his machinist Jean Benoist
were ineligible participants in a race restricted to Australian air teams to
fly from England to Melbourne within 30 days.  The race was won by
brothers Ross and Kieth Smith.

Herewith a mention from the State Library of Australia:

French pilot Etienne Poulet and his mechanic Jean Benoist also attempted
to fly to Australia at the same time, despite being ineligible for the competition.
They left Paris on 14 October 1919 in a Caudron G4. The Vimy overtook
Poulet in Burma on 29 November 1919 and he decided to abandon his
attempt in Thailand around 12 December 1919.

                       All in the (disfunctional) family

In Beyoğlu, Istanbul, two groups of in-laws had a gunfight that left 3
of them dead and 3 of them wounded.  The situation began with an
argument between newlyweds Hacer Giray and Enes Berk Giray.
Hacer hanım took refuge in her uncle's home on Kanarya Street.  When
Enes Berk learned this he went there with his father Hulusi Giray and
his cousin Burak Giray to take Hacer hanım back.

However (!), Hacer hanım refused and called her father Mürsel Ağrı,
who arrived and was shot in the leg by Hulusi Giray.  In response,
Ağrı shot Hulusi, Enes Berk and Burak, killing all three of them. Two
others were wounded amid the gunfire.

Police arrived at the scene and took Ağrı into custody and to a hospital
for treatment of his leg wound.

"Pots & Pans" Politics Draws a Crowd...and COVID, in Turgutlu

Sözcü Newspaper, 26 July 2021

Free! And they even include an "intubation" guarantee!

Over the weekend in Turgutlu district of Manisa province, the general
meeting of the Turgutlu Shopkeepers and Craftsmen Cooperative was
held in the amphitheater at the Turgutlu Irlamaz Facilities.  In attendance
were Turgutlu Mayor Çetin Akın, former MHP parliamentarian Ahmet
Orhan, the heads of the shopkeepers' guilds and their members.

A crowd assembled to participate in the Cooperative's election, but
hardly anyone wore a mask and there was no social distancing at all.
As for the election, there was only one slate of candidates and
Hasan Hüseyin Çoşkun was re-elected as head of the Cooperative.

Prior to the vote, though, 8-piece sets of pots and pans were distributed
to the crowd, which swarmed around the TIR (tractor trailer)
containing the sets.  Some members of the Cooperative bemoaned the
lack of COVID awareness, noting that "it's nice that the sets are being
given away but doing this during a pandemic is inviting disaster with
everyone crowded one on top of the other!"

The police assigned to the election grounds made announcements
about masks and social distances but no one paid any attention.

"Sword" Fells Prey but Escape to Greece Falls Short

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 22 July 2021)

The terrible swift sword, just not quite swift enough.

On 10 July, Mahir Kılınç (23 and whose surname means "sword") and
friends K.K., R.Ö., S.Ç., and O.Ç. were riding around in Bağcılar,
Istanbul, when they encountered Okan Alkan (27), in the Göztepe
neighborhood.  Alkan owed money, so when he saw Kılınç's car he
fled but Kılınç caught up to him and fired 5 shots into Alkan, killing him.

                              Swordprey

Kılınç and his friends took off but the next day one of them, K.K., went
to the police to relate the events related to Alkan's murder.  The police
then took R.Ö., S.Ç. and O.Ç. into custody but could not find Kılınç.
His friends said Kılınç was the murderer and wouldn't let anyone of them
out of the car.  Video evidence supported their claims so they were
released.

Police then got a tip that Kılınç was trying to flee to Greece by illegal
means and informed the Gendarmerie on the border.  On the night of
15 July, Kılınç was captured while trying to cross into Greece from
Edirne's Uzunköprü district.  He was brought back to Istanbul, where
it was determined that he has a record of 17 previous crimes. Kılınç
confessed to killing Alkan in a debt dispute and was jailed.

"Beat & Release": Wife-killer, Free Awaiting Trial, Fled to Montenegro

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 21 July 2021)

You can see that far away, Montenegro look in his eyes...

Sarıgül Hamarat was just 17-years-old when she married Yunus Hamarat.
On 3 August 2018, Sarıgül hanım learned that her building contractor
husband had cheated on her but when she confronted him he beat her
and threw her out of the house.  Sarıgül hanım reported the situation to
the police and entered a women's shelter on 4 August.

Her older brother Alican Sönmez and Yunus bey's older brother İmam
Hamarat brokered a reconciliation and on 5 August Sarigül hanım
returned home.  When their elders left, though, the husband and wife
argued again and on 6 August Yunus bey took Sarıgül hanım to a wooded
area in Silivri, Istanbul.  En route, Yunus bey wrote this phone message
to Sarigül hanım's younger brother Erdal Sönmez: "I'm taking your older
sister to kill her."  Erdal Sönmez told no one about this message.

Yunus bey stopped his Jeep in a wooded area along the Kuşbahçe-
Büyükçavuşlu road and shot his wife one time in the chest.  He then
washed his hands and put the gun in his dead wife's hands to make it
look like a suicide, which he reported to the Gendarmerie.

On 9 August, Yunus bey was jailed and the Silivri public prosecutor
opened a criminal case against him for murder aforethought.  Yunus
bey stuck to the tale of Sarıgül hanım having committed suicide and
on 9 January 2019 he was released from jail to await his trial.

Yunus bey's telephone conversations and WhatsApp messages were
deciphered so the trial date was set for 10 November 2020, with
Yunus bey facing a life sentence and Erdal Sönmez up for a 12.5-
year sentence.

However (!), months later Yunus bey called his relatives from
Montenegro to say that he had fled Turkey.  No official records
could be found about Yunus bey having left the country so the
assumption is that he was aided by human traffickers and made
his way to Montenegro with a fake passport.

"Beat & Release": Confused Hit-Man Killed Couple at Wrong Address in Konya

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 20 July 2021)

                   She's a cat-lover. People? Not so much.

Necla Büyükşen (54) and her husband Metin Büyükşen (55) were killed
in their home in Karatay, Konya, on 3 September 2018 by a hit-man who
stormed the wrong address. (!)

The killer's intended target was Hüseyin K., the ex-boyfriend of Esra
Taş, who, along with Abdullah Başdemir, Zekeriya Okşen and Mustafa
Okşen, have been arrested for ordering the hit.

Initially, Taş called Zekeriye Okşen to find out Hüseyin K.'s address,
since they live in the same town.  Taş told Okşen that "I'm pregnant by
Hüseyin but his family won't let him see me.  He's not answering his
phone but I have to get in touch with him. Can you give me his address?"
In response, Okşen described how to get to Hüseyin K.'s house.

One of the suspects in the murder of the Büyükşen's, an Afghan named
Hamidullah A., was arrested in Ankara the day before yesterday.
Hamidullah A. worked as a shepherd on the farm in Çumra, Konya,
of Abdullah Başdemir and left the area a few days after the killing.
Efforts are underway to find another suspect in the Büyükşen's murder.

Fake Judge Marries Prosecutor, Who Puts Her in Jail

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Haber7 website, 18 July 2021)

Rather than law, she got her degree in "hutzpah".

In Antalya, Zeliha Özdemir had an ID card made for herself in the name
of a judge with the same name.  She was so convincing in her new role
that Zeliha hanım was able to marry public prosecutor Alper Tunçer (!).

However, when Tunçer asked the Hâkim Savcılar Kurulu (HSK) (Judges
and Prosecutors Council) why his wife's name was not on the list of
appointments, the truth came out because the real Zeliha Özdermir had
married and changed her surname.

The wannabe-judge Zeliha hanım, a graduate of a professional legal
high school, told her family and friends that he was studying at a
university law school.  In 2017, while surfing the internet she noticed
that a judge with the same name as her had been assigned to a city by
HSK so she came up with a devilish plan - she had an HSK ID card
printed with the HSK number of the real Zeliha hanım and put her
own picture on it.  She then joined a sports club with her new identity
and even took advantage of an HSK discount for car insurance.

The wannabe-judge Zeliha hanım went to the Antalya courthouse and
told her future husband and supposed legal colleagues that she was
the Zeliha Özdemir who had been appointed to Çeşme and that she had
been temporarily assigned to Antalya as an HSK inspector.  Her child's
illness, though, had supposedly delayed her coming on duty.

In any event, prosecutor Alper Tunçer was taken in by the wannabe-judge
Zeliha hanım and the couple married.  The real judge Zeliha hanım was
a Penal Court judge.  Wannabe-judge Zeliha hanım, who took the surname
Tunçer after marrying, was able to discuss legal matters with her husband
and even advise him on some issues.

On 5 April, while coming from the Antalya airport, Zeliha hanım could not
find her fake HSK ID card in her purse so she filed a notice with the
airport police about her missing ID card.  An hour later, though, she
remembered that the ID card was a fake so she withdrew the notice.

Finally, having not started to work and, therefore, not getting a salary,
her husband Tunçer queried HSK about the "mix-up", only to learn that
the real Zeliha Özdemir was now registered under her married name.
So (!), Tunçer had his wife taken into custody in Antalya and on 16 July
she was arraigned and jailed.  Tunçer has filed for divorce.

                            Rest in Nirvana

People visiting the cemetery on 12 July in Yukarıyenice village of
Dazkırı district in Afyonkarahisar province were startled to see
marijuana plants growing atop the graves of a husband and wife so
they informed the Gendarmerie.

The Gendarmerie team that arrived at the cemetery found 26
marijuana plants growing on top of the two separate graves.
Investigating, they determined that Ç.G. (29) had planted the
marijuana on his grandparents' graves. (!)

A subsequent raid on the home of Ç.G. and his father G.G. (56)
resulted in the Gendarmerie seizing 587 grams of methamphetamine,
54 grams of hashish, 11 grams of hashish resin, 62 marijuana plants
and a sensitive weighing scale.  The father and son were taken into
custody for "producing and selling drugs".

Motorcycle trainer Yaren Şatıroğlu (23) was victimized by a 3-man
organized theft gang that stole her motorcycle despite a cipher and
disk lock, from in front of her house in Istanbul (!).

With the help of her grandmother Nimet Türkyılmaz, Yaren hanım
bought the Yamaha R 25 motorcycle six months ago.  After receiving
an "expert trainer" certificate from the National Ministry of Education,
Yaren hanım, who is studying political science at Nişantaşı University,
began to give lessons and was using her earnings to pay off the credit
debt on her motorcycle.

Arriving home, Yaren hanım parked her motorcycle in her apartment
block's parking lot, locked it and covered it with a tarp. She closed
the entrance gate and went into her home.

But on the morning of 13 July, three robbers riding on two motorcycles
arrived and were quickly able to open the automatic gate by lifting it
off its rail and pushing it.  While one of the three stood look-out, the
other two removed the cover on Yaren hanım's motorcycle, easily broke
the disk lock and then disabled the "immobilizer" ignition system, before
riding off with Yaren hanım's motorcycle.

Yaren hanım opined that thieves had followed her for some time and
planned the theft carefully.  She lamented that "they didn't just rob my
motorcycle, they stole my dream, my livelihood and my future."

Yalçın Hallaçoğlu, the head of the Turkey Motorcycle Platform, took
note of the increasing motorcycle thefts in Istanbul, saying that "the
thieves roam around as if they have keys for everywhere.  They follow
riders and choose a make and model.  No cover or lock can stop them.
We are faced with organized robbery."

Cunning "Holy Man" Exploits Legal Linguistics to Wriggle Free in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 15 July 2021)

His book dispels both evil spirits and evil court rulings.

Fake "hoca" (holy man) Burhan Dalğalı gained infamy for writing some
Arabic words on the stomach and underwear of a woman "patient" a few
months ago.  Yet, he has been rescued from a jail sentence in the trial
against him for "exploiting religious beliefs" by some legal trickery.

A different and prior case was opened against Dalğalı when photographs
came out showing him supposedly attending a meeting of the terrorist
organization "PKK".  As a result, Dalğalı was sentenced to 10 months in
jail for making terrorist organization propaganda.

Dalğalı, though, appealed the sentence.  So while this "PKK" case has
continued, the new charge of "exploiting religious beliefs" was filed
against Dalğalı separately for having defrauded taxi driver Ebubekir B.
of 3,200 TL (about $400) in connection with Dalğalı's "efforts" to
refresh Ebubekir B.'s marriage with his wife Sema B. by writing Arabic
words on her stomach and underwear. (!)

The "exploiting religious beliefs" case against Dalğalı was decided by
the Bakırköy, Istanbul, court yesterday and he was sentenced to spend
1 year, 9 months and 15 days in jail, along with paying a fine of 1,320 TL.
However (!), since the PKK case remains under appeal Dalğalı is still
an "unconvicted" citizen and so the "exploiting religious beliefs"
conviction and sentence has been, in Turkish legal terms, "hükmün
açıklanmasını geri bıraktı" (announcement of the verdict has been
deferred).

Kaan Erol was serving at the Metin Sabancı Bone Diseases Training

he did not do so "with monstrous intent or to inflict torment". (!!)

At the court hearing of the case, Sümter and Erol's family attended

"intentional murder with monstrous intent or to inflict torment."
Nevertheless, the prosecutor asked for a life sentence for Sümter.

                                       Dancing Fools

The night before last, O.Y. drove his car to Khalkedon Square in Kadıköy,
Istanbul, and blasted dance songs into the air.  Those in the square picked
up the tempo and began dancing, too.  This prompted two of them, Y.E.U.
and Ö.F.A., to climb up to the roof of Surp Takavor Armenian Church and
dance next to the cross there. (!)

Police took the three suspects into custody, all of whom were under the
influence of alcohol.  They claimed that they had meant no disrespect
but, nevertheless, they were brought before a judge for "disparaging the
religious values of a portion of the populace."  The court released Y.E.U.
and Ö.F.A. on judicial supervision and set O.Y. free outright.

The Armenian Patriarch in Turkey, Sahak Maşalyan, condemned the
disrespect in a written statement but Karabet Baliyev, a member of the
Surp Takavor Armenian Church's board of directors stated that  "I see no
ulterior motives here. These people did not do any damage to the church."
He declined to file a complaint against the suspects.

Turkish officials ranging from Religious Affairs Chief Prof. Dr. Ali

virulent condemnations of the incident.

Police also spotted the license plate of the car Akan was using that

                                    Homicidal genetics.

Emre Tyler Mays was stabbed to death before his mother's eyes by Akın
Kutlu, who mistook Mays for a foe, in January 2020 at a hospital in
Şişli, Istanbul.  Now, Akın's older brother Muhammed Kutlu has
committed a murder and has been arrested, together with another brother
and his father.  The mother has been charged with inciting the murder. (!)

Mays, the son of  a wine firm family, was killed by mistake by Akın
because of  an unrelated incident that occurred at the Kutlu family's
hamburger stand in Fulya, Şişli, during which Akın's father Gazi
and older brother Davut were injured.  Gazi Kutlu was running the
stand with his brother-in-law Hacı Tekcan, but they had a falling out.

While Akın Kutlu has been in jail for the Mays murder, his mother
Döndü Kutlu mused about her brother Hacı Tekcan: "my son's in jail.
I'll make Hacı suffer like I'm suffering the absence of my child by
cutting off his son Ozan's head and throwing it at his feet!"

Ozan was working as a delivery boy for the hamburger stand.  On
22 December 2020, Davut Kutlu had an argument with Ozan and
called his mother to tell her that Ozan and his friend Batuhan
Karanlıkoğlu had gone to the police station to file a complaint about
Davut.

At the police station, Davut and Ozan began to fight again.  At this
point, father Gazi Kutlu, mother Döndü Kutlu and brother Muhammed
Kutlu arrived at the police station and Gazi began to beat Ozan with a
metal bar (!).  Muhammed grabbed a gun from his motorcycle pouch
and shot Ozan three times in the head, three times in the legs and twice
in the neck.  Ozan died at the scene and Batuhan Karanlıkoğlu was hit
by a bullet in his left thumb.

Police fired into the air to quell the fight and took the attackers into
custody.  Gazi, Muhammed and Davut were put in jail and mother
Döndü was fitted with an electronic clamp for house arrest.  The
public prosecutor has filed a case against Muhammed for "intentional
murder" of Akın, asking for a life sentence and tacking on another 15
years for the wounding of Karanlıkoğlu.  In the indictment, Gazi is
also charged with murder and wounding, while mother Döndü and
Davut are charged with having incited the murder, for which they would
receive life jail sentences.
