When entering, just make it look like you belong there.

In Seyhan district of Adana, on 16 October at about 1 o'clock
in the afternoon, with hats on their heads and sunglasses
covering their eyes, Bahar Fidan (22), her cousin Sevil Fidan
(20), Sevda Demir (28) and Tuğçe Çelik (23) stolled past the
security guard to enter an apartment complex.

Once inside the building, the four went up to the flat of
Sanem Ö., who was at work at that hour, on the 12th floor.
They were able to (somehow!) force open the steel front
door and steal  450,000 TL (about $13,000) worth of gold
and jewelry.

On 17 October, Sevda Demir and Tuğçe Çelik broke into
the flat of Duygu Ç. in Adana's Çukurova district and stole
400,000 TL worth of gold and jewelry.  In addition, on 18
October they stole 100,000 worth of gold from a flat in the
Yüreğir district.

After examining security camera footage, police identified
the suspects  and arrested them in a raid on their hideout.
The four women have been jailed.

"Beat & Release": Loansharks Swarm to Desperate Victim, in Karaman

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 29 October 2024)

M.K. seen entering his tunnel of doom.

In Karaman province, merchant M.K. (42) couldn't pay his debts
so he borrowed 100,000 TL (about  $3,000) from a loneshark but
over the course of two years his debt to a number of loansharks
grew to 20 million TL (about $580,000 !).   When M.K. couldn't pay,
all his loansharks began to threaten him so he fled from Karaman
and through his lawyer Halil Açıkgöz filed a criminal complaint
against the loansharks with the public prosecutor..

In his complaint, M.K. stated that "I was in charge of the Has
Çobanoğlu Trade Construction Industry Tourism Ltd. company
in Karaman.  In 2022, I was unable to pay some debts  and in
January of that year Veli Ü. called me, saying he'd heard I was
having financial problems.  A few days later I borrowed
100,000 TL from Veli and 10 minutes later his man Fatih G.
brought me the money wrapped in a newspaper (!).

Veli wanted me to sign a promissory note, such that I would
pay him back 160,000 TL in 30-40 days.  A month later he
called me and demanded payment. I said 'give me another day'.
Veli refused and said my debt had risen to 320,000 TL. This
process continued until June 2024, at which point I had given
Veli promissory notes totaling 15 million TL (!).

Prosecutors taking a statement from "Arap Ramazan".

As far as I can recall, Veli went to jail for loansharking in June
2022.  When he got out a few months later he told me that
he wanted me to pay him right away.  I couldn't so in October
2022 I got in touch with loanshark Ramazan (Arap Ramazan)
A. and his son Ahmet A. in Karaman and obtained 7 million TL
from them.  In May 2023, Ahmet A. demanded payment so I
wrote him an undated check for 4,500, 000 TL.  But he wanted
me to sign over the titles of two homes I owned to him and out
of fear for my family's safety I did so.

In May-June 2024 Veli Ü, Ramazan A. and Ahmet A. came to
my workplace a number of times and threatened me, saying
"We won't let our money get away.  We'll destroy you and your
family!"

In order to pay them, I borrowed 4,830,000 TL from another
loanshark named Mustafa Ç., (!) giving him a check for 7,400,000
TL in exchange.  As all the loansharks' threats continued, I decided
to flee from Karaman on 12 June 2024.  Veli Ü.'s goon Aytekin K.
visited my brothers Muhammet K. and Muhammet A.K., asking
where I could be found.  My complaint concerns Veli Ü., Ramazan
A., Ahmet A., Mustafa Ç. Aytekin K. and Orhan K., all of whom
subjected me to loansharking and victimized me."

"Beat & Release": Nightclub Battle in Istanbul is a Lost Chapter of "War & Peace"

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 28 October 2024)

That's Leo Tolstoy in the middle, making notes.

In the Taksim Square area of Istanbul, nightclub owners
Savaş A. ("War", 37) and Barış A. ("Peace", 36), gave
Erdem S. and his friends Ferdi T. (26) and Malik T. (27)
a 5% partnership for 40,000 TL per month each and turned
over the club to them to manage.  But after Ferdi T. and
Malik T. ran the club for a while they reneged on giving
the monthly payment, resulting in gun violence that sealed
the club shut.

Subsequently, when Ferdi T. and Malik T. learned that "War
& Peace" had reopened the club, they sent their goons
Serhat T. (24) and Ermihan A. (19) to the club and Serhat T.
threatened the workers with his gun, taking all the money.
Consequently, "War & Peace" had to close the nightclub.

On 15 October, goons Serhat T.,  Emirhan A., Abdullah Ç.
(32) and Erdal G. (36) same to the nightclub and opened the
padlock on the door with a "spiral" (coil used as an intrauterine
device  (!)) .  Their forced entry prompted "War & Peace" to
contact the Beyoğlu police, who identified the four intruders
and took them into custody.

Serhat T. was jailed by the court, while the other three were
released on judicial supervision.  A week later, Ferdi T. and
Malik T. were arrested, with the former being jailed and the
latter being released on judicial supervision.

The six are no strangers to jail: Ferdi T. has a police record
of 10 crimes, Malik T.-14, Serhat T. - 15, Emirhan A. - 4,
Abdullah Ç. - 6, and (the champ) Erdal G. with 20 crimes
to his credit.

The suspect quickly put his cellphone in his pocket and
pretended to examine the store's clothes.  The women, though,

fled but they couldn't catch him.

In any case, police examined store video footage and
determined that the devaint was Cemal B.  He was tracked

Evidence presented to refute killer's alibi.

In September 2023 in Bursa's Nilüfer district, realtor Ertuğrul
Erdoğan (23) met with Bülent Karakuş (43) a nightclub
manager with whom Erdoğan had partnered in business

A money dispute had estranged the two so when they argued
Erdoğan was prompted to shoot Karakuş 7 times with his

gun (!).

Karakuş, not surprisingly, died. Erdoğan turned himself
in to the police and was jailed.  In court, Erdoğan "explained"
that "I lost my head. I went to jail at a young age.  Normally,
I wouldn't hurt an ant (!).  I'm pleading with you to acquit me!"

Nevertheless, although Erdoğan was granted a "discount" for
"unjustified provocation", he was sentenced to 18 years in
jail for the murder and another 6 years for having 3 unlicensed
revolvers and fined 12,000 TL (about $350).

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 24 October 2024)

                An unfortunate "volcanic" eruption.

Yesterday in Üsküdar, Istanbul, lawyer Yaşar Tarık Okatan and
his father Kadir Okatan, a retired army officer, noticed a car
waiting in front of a shop.  Yaşar Tarık bey thought that one
of the people in the car resembled someone who harassed his
sister, so he and his father approached the waiting car in their
own vehicle.

Yaşar Tarık bey, with a hammer in his hand, cried out "You're
Volkan, the one who harassed my sister!" and he began to
hit "Volkan" with the hammer.  "Volkan" protested that he
wasn't the "Volkan" Yaşar Tarık was looking for, but to no
avail, as father Kadir bey fired on the men in the car with a
revolver. (!)

It turned out that the two people in the car were plainclothes
policemen on a stakeout (!).  Kadir bey's firing prompted one
of them to shoot both Okatan's - Yaşar Tarık bey in the head
and Kadir bey in his groin.  Father and son, along with one
of the policemen, were taken to a hospital.

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 23 October 2024)

                     Workplace violence, in spades.

Vedat K. (22) of Suruç district in Şanlıurfa province, went to
Antalya in 2020 to work in an industrial park there. During the
first 10 months he worked at the park he noticed that his
paycheck was less than expected so he complained to his boss,
but was rebuffed.

Calculating that he was owed 70,000 TL (about $2,000), Vedat
K. grabbed 15,000 TL from his boss's desk and went to Istanbul.
A while later he came back to Antalya and repaid the 15,000 TL
he had taken.

However (!),  in response Vedat K. was beaten by A.T., O.T.,
S.T. and A.A., who bound him to a chair in a warehouse,
where they tortured Vedat K. for three days, breaking his
teeth and forcing cockroaches down his open mouth.

The torturers even videoed their dastardly acts. When Vedat K.
recovered he didn't file a police complaint because he didn't
have access to the video.  In any case, Vedat K. went back to
work for eight months during which time he succeeded in
secretly copying the torture video from the fiends' phones.

Vedat K. then fled to Suruç and filed a complaint.  The
torturers gave statements but were released and the trial
continues, with the next hearing scheduled for 25 December.

"Beat & Release": Killer Gets "Divine Guidance" to Shoot Father and Brother Before Having Tea With Pals, in Denizli

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 23 October 2024)

Kemal was always the "sensitive" one...

When neighbors of Süleyman Pekdemir (56) saw that his
house in Denizli's Tavas district was on fire the day before
yesterday they called for help.  Firefighters, along with
medics and Gendarmerie troops, arrived at the scene.  The
fire was put out in about an hour, but firefighters who entered
the house afterward found the dead bodies of Pekdemir and his
son Muhammet (30).

A Gendarmerie investigation revealed that Pekdemir's
younger son Kemal had shot dead his father and older
brother with a hunting rifle on Sunday, spent that night
in the house with their dead bodies, started the fire on
Monday night and then went to drink tea. (!)

Kemal Pekdemir was taken into custody and "explained" that
he had asked his father and brother for money but they had
refused to give him any.  As a result, he set the house on fire.
However, under cross-examination, he said that "Guidance
came from above (!).  Before I went to the house I checked my
rifle to make sure it wouldn't jam.  Then I shot them both
and waited for them to die.  Next, I left the house and went
to a coffeehouse where I had tea and chatted with my friends.
I went back to the house on Monday night and set it on fire.
Then I fled."

"Braid & Release": Alleged Thief's "African Braids" Get Her Acquitted, in Bursa

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 21 October 2024)

                Sometimes, lawyers actually do help.

In May 2019 in Bursa, three individuals, one of them a woman,
entered Mustafa M.'s bakery and robbed 60 TL from the cash
register, 110 TL left on a table, and 530 TL from the pocket of
a jacket hanging on a coat rack.  The three thieves then hopped
on a motorcycle and fled.

Police nabbed the male thieves Serkan Bilican (26) and S.E.
(17).  As for the woman involved, based on video images
police took M.K. (25) into custody.  Subsequently, all three
were released but at a court hearing on 8 October 2020,
Bilican, who admitted guilt, was sentenced to 3 years 9
months in jail.

As for M.K., she denied guilt but was, nevertheless, hit with
a 3 year-1 month-15 day jail sentence, which was approved
so she went to jail, but was released a week later because of
the COVID pandemic (!).

Last month, M.K. learned from police, who were looking for
her again, that a female thief using M.K.'s ID had been arrested.
M.K.'s lawyer Barış Aydın investigated the matter and found
that the woman had straight hair, whereas M.K. wears her
hair in an "African braids" style.  A review of the images
from the May 2019 robbery incident showed that the female
thief then had straight hair. (!)

Ultimately, M.K. was acquitted of involvement in the May
2019 robbery "by a hair", so to speak.  Bilican and S.E.
finally apologized to M.K. for falsely incriminating her. (!)

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 20 October 2024)

Recent "Dalton Gang" publicity photo touting
effectiveness.

Police operations launched against the Barış Boyun Gang
and the "Dalton Gang" have put pressure on the gangs' bosses.
In the "Kuyu-36" operation conducted on 14 October, Boyun
Gang affiliate Adnan Çolak, the son of recently deceased former
footballer Mecnun Çolak, was captured.  Also nabbed was Murat
Özavşar, the CEO of an Istanbul company.

Among the crimes the gangs are accused of committing: firing on
a nightclub in Nişantaşı twice; throwing a bomb into the Çatalca-
Büyükçekmece TIR (long-haul trucks) garage; and threatening
businessmen at the Tuzla shipyard. The aim of these criminal
acts was to keep the flow of money to the gangs continuing.

The gangs began to hire criminals from abroad to fill the
vacancies left by members arrested in Turkey but recent police
raids and arrests of these for-hire foreign gangsters has put a
big dent in the gangs' normal (!) blackmail and extortion activities
against local businesses.

"Beat & Release": Phoney Turkish Secret Agent Drains Duped Girlfriend's Bank Account

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 18 October 2024)

At least James Bond has some manners.
               S.T., not so much.

Engineer H.B., who lives in Germany, met S.T. eight years ago.
Three months after they met, S.T. told H.B. that he was a secret
agent for Turkish intelligence and would probably be martyred
for his country.  H.B. (evidently also a Turk) was moved by
S.T.'s patriotism and fell in love with him. (!)

However, S.T. continually asked H.B. for money for his
"secret overseas missions".  When at last H.B. protested,
S.T. called her a "traitor to her country".  Shamed by this
epithet, H.B. resumed her no-questions-asked support to
S.T.

H.B. came to Istanbıl from Germany, based on S.T.'s
(empty) promise of marriage.  Once in Istanbul, S.T.
wanted to keep H.B. as a live-in girlfriend but she
demanded a formal marriage.  In response, S.T. said
"Because of my duty, I cannot get married. All secret agents
like me have this same restriction and their women all
accept this."

Nevertheless, in light of H.B.'s insistence, S.T. made a show
of preparing for a wedding and he had H.B. stay in a hotel
in Antalya, where, instead, he beat her and nearly strangled
her. If she got on a plane, S.T. said he would tip the airline
that she was a terrorist and disgrace her.  Unable to bear S.T.'s
oppression any longer, H.B. again gave in and provided
S.T. with the money he wanted.

However (!), when H.B. returned to Istanbul from Antalya
she could not reach S.T.  but saw on social media that he
had become engaged to another woman (!).  Finally, H.B.
filed a criminal complaint against S.T.

hanım boarded a metrobüs, giving birth on the bus and naming
her new son "Yılmaz" ("undaunted").  (!)

In light of this historic birth, IETT (Istanbul's mass transit arm)

Mustafa Bozdemir, the driver of the 34 AS Avcılar-Soğütlüçeşme

we pulled the bus into an appropriate place.  Then the medical
personnel arrived. For me, it was an event I could never have

TNT's stolen bridge report from March

Bridge screamed: "Where's the rest of me?!"

Asserting that the 1936 Gömleksiz Bridge over the Kirmir
Stream in Ankara's Beypazarı district "is mine", Ziya Kesğin
sold it for scrap in January 2022, reaping 60,000 TL.  (!) Now,
though, Kesğin has been convicted on charges of  "theft-of-
bridge" and will serve 2.5 years in jail.

The 500-meter Gömleksiz Bridge was in use for 42 years
until flood damage made it unusable in 1978.  It was
left idle as a new bridge was built nearby.  In 2022, the
Gömleksiz Bridge was demolished within a week and its
iron and other parts of value were stripped away.

The legal owner of the bridge was the Highways General
Directorate but Kesğin "assumed ownership" of it and
sold the scrap to junkmen Y.Ç. and D.K. for 60,000 TL.
However (!), a court case was opened against the three
and the verdict was delivered on 11 October, with Kesğin
convicted of theft and receiving a 2.5 year jail sentence.

The two junkmen were acquitted.

Selahattin Demirel (68), who lives in Istanbul, has had 4 heart
attacks but has resisted pleas to have a bypass operation out of
a fear of operations phobia.

However (!),  when Demirel had a heart attack while driving
his car, miraculously, Dr. Şamil Gerek was driving the car
behind him.  Dr. Gerek, who is the head doctor at Adana
Kadirli State Hospital, just happened to be in Istanbul for a
few days.  He gave Selahattin bey a heart massage and got
him to a hospital quickly, saving his life.

Dr. Gerek persuaded Selahattin bey to have an operation.
Then, without entering the rib cage, the source of Selahattin
bey's fright, the operation was made through the underarm
by Prof. Dr. Cengiz Köksal, who explained that "with some
patients it is possible to perform a heart bypass operation
by entering the chest cavity through the underarm, rather
than by opening the rib cage, with the infection risk less
and the hospital stay reduced, as well.  Perhaps the most
important aspect is that the patient doesn't see a scar and
feels better psychologically."

Selahattin bey is feeling pretty good these days.

Yatağan Mosque. Halit bey's friend Erdoğan Baysal related
what happened: "There were about 10-15 of us and we were
all startled when sounds came from the coffin.  He (Halit
bey) was hitting the lid from inside and taking breaths.
We were all in shock.  The medics came and began to
apply shock treatment to his chest.  We heard that there
were great efforts to save him at the hospital but to no avail
in the end."

Turgay Tirit, another funeral attendee, said that "we went
into the mosque and saw him in the coffin and there was
a pulse detector on his arm that read 120.  But it gradually
dropped to 55-56 so he was taken out of the coffin and
put into the ambulance."

Halit bey's son Yiğit Bayşu said "the doctor told us he
had never witnessed such a thing in all his years as a
doctor."   Nephew Osman Bayşu observed that "if we
hadn't heard the noise my uncle would have been buried
alive and died again all by himself."
