(Hürriyet Newspaper, 30 September 2024)

Thought he'd finally get out of picking up the kids
and mother-in-law.

In Adana, housewife Esma V. took her driver's license test for
the fourth time (!) but because she didn't turn on her blinker
when turning at the Mustafa Kemal Paşa Boulevard intersection
in Yüreğir district, she failed again.

Following the test car from behind was Esma hanım's husband
Murat V., who became enraged when his wife was denied her
license once more.  Murat bey took out his anger on test driver
Baddal A. and broke his nose with a punch.

Baddal bey was taken to a hospital for treatment and he filed
a police complaint against Murat bey, who was then taken into
custody and brought to the Akıncılar police station.

Held hostage as hubby tries to bargain her health.

Burçak Topaç (48), who lives in Ankara, married hairdresser
Muharrem Topaç (52) through a matchmaker in 1997.  The
couple had two children together but Burçak hanım complained
of physical, psychological and economic (!) abuse by Muharrem
bey so she filed for divorce.

A court granted the divorce but Muharrem bey protested, saying
he wanted to remain married, so the case is now in on appeals
court.  However, Burçak hanım became ill and doctors told her
she needed to have her womb and eggs removed in an operation.

But since the couple's divorce is still up in the air, Burçak hanım
must obtain Muharrem bey's permission for such an operation. (!)
In response, Muharrem bey is trying to leverage Burçak hanım's
urgent health situation to get a divorce settlement to his liking
by withholding permission.

Muharrem bey begs to differ...for a better divorce deal.

"Beat & Release": Self-admitted "Crazy" Midnight Bike Rider Stabs Trumpeter to Death, in Antalya

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 29 September 2024)

Strangers in the night - one much stranger than
the other.

In Muratpaşa district of Antalya , Polat Dereli (45) went out for
a bicycle ride at 1 o'clock in the morning (!),  promptly got into
an argument with valet Osman Dere (36)  at a cafeteria in the
Çağlayan neighborhood and Dereli stabbed Dere.

As police and medics arrived on the scene, Dereli fled on his
bike and promptly got into an argument 15 minutes later with
Deniz Akten (38) on the same street.  Dereli stabbed Akten, who
played the trumpet in the Antalya Municipal Band (!),  20 times,
killing him.

As police were examining the scene of Akten's murder, they saw
that Dereli was there watching them.  He and his knife were
nabbed.  It turned out that Dereli has a police record of nine
previous crimes.  He denied that he had stabbed Dere and
Akten, saying only that "I'm crazy" (!).  True - 3 years ago
Dereli was a patient at a mental hospital in Istanbul.

"Fleece & Release": Diplomas of the Dead Sold and Rewritten by "Graduates", in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 28 September 2024)

Don't forget to add "with high honors".

Diplomas of dead graduates (!) of  Yıldız Technical University
(YTÜ) in Istanbul have been sold and rewritten by erasing the
deceased's information to become the buyer's YTÜ "diploma".

Recently, YTÜ diplomas have been sold to individuals with no
links to YTÜ and even posted on "e-Devlet" (Turkey's record
system for citizens).  It turns out that the systems of a software
company that works with universities all around Turkey was
supposedly hacked.  Gökmen Çiftçi, the founder of Proliz
Software Company denied that his company's system was
hacked and explained what happened.

"We put our system into operation in 2009 and a total of 101
universities in Turkey were using our system for their academic
activities.  After each university approved and confirmed
diplomas we would send them to YÖKSİS" (computer system
of the High Academic Council).  So the information on e-Devlet
is from YÖKSİS, not from us."

"Our system wasn't hacked and there wasn't a leak from it. This
incident happened when the password of a YTÜ user was stolen.
Then, the hoodwinkers showed 8 people as having graduated
and sent this information to YÖKSİS.  Normally, a living
person's data might be detected as fraudulent but not a dead
person's because they're not around to make a complaint.
In any case, the diplomas of deceased graduates can no longer
be changed in the YTÜ system."

YTÜ's two campuses...both near cemeteries.

"Beat & Release": Ex-Imam's May-December Romance Ends Badly, in Antalya

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 26 September 2024)

The age difference was too much to overcome...

Last Saturday someone in Antalya's Gündoğmuş district called
police saying that there was a dead body lying on a cliff.  The
body in question was that of former imam (!) Mustafa Keyik
(46), who had been shot in the  back of his head with a rifle.
Keyik's truck was found smashed into a hillside near the cliff.

Keyik had a romantic relationship for a while with M.S. (19)
and she, along with 7 other suspects, was taken into custody.
It turned out that M.S., her uncle Fedai Solak and her cousin
Tolga Solak had planned and committed the murder, after
which they dumped Keyik's body on the cliff.

In order to make the murder look like it was an accident
(rifle shot to the head notwithstanding!), the suspects ran
Keyik's truck into the hillside and fled.  After the Gendarmerie
completed processing, M.S. and the two Solaks were jailed,
while the other suspects were released on judicial supervision.

                           Great future ahead of him.

Last Sunday night in Istanbul's Ümraniye district robbery
suspect Yunus Emre Geçti (19) grabbed a policeman's gun
while being taken into custody and shot policewoman
Şeyda Yılmaz to death.

Kahan Geçti, Yunus Emre's cousin and also an incorrigible
criminal with a long police record, reacted to his cousin's
arrest by threatening citizens via his social media account.
Kahan included photos of himself carrying an Uzi automatic
rifle and a revolver to emphasize his point, while writing
curses to boot.

Reactions on social media prompted Kahan to limit access
to his page and he erased what had been there, including
his profile photo.  Nevertheless, police tracked down Kahan
at his home in Sultanbeyli and he was jailed for "actions
contrary to the firearms law."

Maybe it's something in the water....

"Teach & Release": 7th Grader and His Knockout Spanish Teacher's "Private Lessons", in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 25 September 2024)

              Mandatory learning: "Repeat 4 times!"

Betül Nisa Çelik (28), a Spanish teacher at a private school in
Istanbul's Gaziosmanpaşa district, also sold bracelets she made
on her social media page.  On 25 December 2023, 7th grader
M.A. sent her a message to add him as a friend.  This began an
online "friendship" between the two for a number of months,
after which Betül Nisa hanım invited M.A. to her house to
watch a movie.

Subsequently, the two met at her house at specific times and
Betül Nisa hanım allegedly "took advantage" of M.A.
sexually.  M.A.'s father noticed the situation and filed a
complaint with the public prosecutor after examining his
son's telephone.  With the help of a pedagogue, M.A. related
his relationship with the teacher online and afterwards.  He
said that as of  27 May he would go to the teacher's home to
watch films and have sex four times (!) consensually.

Betül Nisa hanım was taken into custody and "explained"
that she thought M.A. was 16-years-old but that, in any case,
there was no sexual activity between the two (!).  Nevertheless,
she was jailed and a sentence of 21 years in prison was
requested by the public prosecutor for "child exploitation".
But after serving 4 months in jail, Betül Nisa hamim was
released on judicial supervision.

                  Contemplating her lesson plan.

M.A.'s father Memduh A. lamented that this period of their
lives had been very trying and that they changed M.A.'s
school and moved to another place to live.  The prosecutor
noted that there had been many sexually-oriented discussions
between Betül Nisa hanım and M.A. and for her to claim she
didn't know he was underage, despite being his 7th grade
teacher (!), was ludicrous.

In her defense, Betül Nisa hanım stated that "We became
close but there were no sexual relations.  Both he and his
family have been affected by this but so have I.  If I should
be punished so be it.  I regret that it happened."  Her lawyer
related that Betül Nisa hanım had just ended a relationship
when her friendship with M.A. began so it filled a need in
her.

Nevertheless, the court sentenced Betül Nisa hanım to
14 years 7 months in jail and if this sentence is approved
she will go back to prison.

           Dressed and transported appropriately.

The evening before last police in the Dudullu neighborhood
of Istanbul's Ümraniye district motorcycle thief Yunus Emre
Geçti (19) was taken into custody.  However, while talking
to his relatives in the garden of the police station, Geçti
hopped the fence and disappeared.

Police tracked down Geçti near midnight in the İhlamurkuyu
neighborhood but in the tussle to apprehend him Geçti grabbed
the gun of  a policeman and shot policewoman Şeyda Yılmaz
to death.  Another policeman, Kürşat Hakkı Sarıtepe, was
injured in the shootout , as was Geçti's mother P.G. (43) .

Opposites unfortunately sometimes attract.

Geçti has a record of 26 previous crimes (!), ranging from
"intentional wounding" to "drug trafficking and use".  Geçti
claimed he didn't recall shooting Policewoman Yılmaz but
he nevertheless confessed to it.  He was taken from the police
station, "dressed" in a garbage bag and inside a transport
vehicle normally used for dangerous animals at 2 o'clock in
the morning, to the Anatolia Courthouse in Kartal, after
which he was jailed.

You can fool some of the people some of the time...

In 2014 Sabahattin Özer (43) was sentenced to 12 years in
prison for "wrongful death" in Yıldırım district of Bursa but
his friends and family united to create the impression that Özer
had fled Turkey. (!)

Özer was never seen around his home in Yıldırım and never
appeared on social media.  However (!),  police checked
census records and found that Özer had fathered children in
Turkey in 2017 and 2021.  In addition, police discovered that
Özer's wife F.Ö. was living in a home with these children.

Next, police checked elementary school records, thinking
that the child born in 2017 would be in school now.  Also,
F:Ö.'s car's license plate with "77" (Yalova)  was identifed
and this led police to her address.  The car had been seen
often in Istanbul and had come to Bursa late at night so
police suspected that Özer was using it.

On 20 September, Özer came in the car and entered the
house.  He was then taken into custody by police and sent
to jail to fulfill his long-delayed sentence.

Sakaryaspor's slap-happy criminal ad man...

A video of the president of the sports club Sakaryaspor being
slapped by someone spread on social media the night before
last, prompting the Sakarya public prosecutor to investigate.

It turned out that the slapper was Sakaryaspor's director for
advertising and sponsorship Cengiz Şen.  The club's director
S.İ. took the video with his cellphone.  In the video, Şen
says to İn "You'll pay the 150,000 TL that Birol took! Do you
hear me?!"  and follows it up with two slaps to İn's face. (!)
In response to the slaps, İn said humbly "OK my son. Calm
down. I have a heart problem.  You know that, right?"

Şen, who has a police record on six crimes for "wounding"
and "threatening", was caught by police in Beşiktaş, Istanbul,
the day before yesterday, handcuffed behind his back and
taken to jail.

...slapped into jail.

S.İ. is still being sought by police, whereas İn,
who told those close to him after the video spread that "I'm
under threat!", fled Sakarya.  Consequently, police have not
gotten a statement from him.

The video that came out was taken on Wednesday. The
incident has a relationship to the Sakaryaspor congress to
be held today with regard to candidates.

Sinem T. was stabbed seven times by her former husband
Sinan Özçelik in front of their children.  However (!),
because Sinem hanım would not allow Özçelik to see their
11 and 13-year-old daughters she was given a 3-day jail
sentence. (!!)  She entered jail on 16 September and was
released 72 hours later for a heartfelt reunion with her kids.

Sinem hanım (33), works in a beauty salon in Ankara and
divorced her physically abusive husband Özçelik (41) two
years ago.  Last year on 24 October, Özçelik stabbed Sinem
hanım 7 times, causing her to stay in intensive care for 10
days.  With difficulty, she recovered her health.

Özçelik was tried for attempted murder and jailed but
released 9 months later (!).  Based on Sinem hanım's
objection, Özçelik was re-arrested.  He, though, filed a
complaint against Sinem hanım for not letting him see their
daughters and she was sentenced to 3 days in jail (!).  Sinem
hanım left the girls with her father H.T. and surrendered to
police on 16 September and entered Sincan Closed Prison.

Upon her release, Sinem hanım said that "I want my
children to study law and become lawyers or prosecutors
or judges so they can find ways to prevent people like me
from being punished unjustly."

At this point, police handcuffed Gürdül behind his back and

          Proud of his bedside manner...

Dr. E.V., a doctor from a foreign country working at a
private hospital in Lüleburgaz district of Kırklareli province,
suffered a sexual attack by the hospital's head doctor Abdullah
Çiftçi (47) on 30 May 2020.   After the attack, E.V. went to
Edirne where her family was living, received psychological
help and then went to a police station to file a complaint against
Çiftçi.

In her statement, E.V. told police that after she ended a
relationship Çiftçi gave her some medicine to help her cope
and that same day, while she was working in the ER, he came
to her again and administered the same medicine to her once
more.  In the evening, Çiftçi invited E.V. to his office for a few
drinks.  E.V. told Çiftçi she didn't feel well and the next thing
she knew she was being raped by Çiftçi on a stretcher in the
darkened room.

In her woozy condition, E.V. was unable to resist Çiftçi or even
to  scream for help. In any case, Çiftçi was arrested on 19 June
2020.  In court, Çiftçi denied the charges, claiming that the
liaison was consensual.  The court, however, gave Çiftçi an 18-
year jail sentence for rape but reduced it to 15 years, based on
Çiftçi's unsullied (!) past.

However (!) , Çiftçi appealed to a court in Istanbul and was both
acquitted and freed.  This prompted E.V.'s lawyer Bedia Mutlu
Mirzabey to take the case to the "Yargıtay" (a higher appeals
court).  The day before yesterday, the "Yargıtay" ruled that
Çiftçi, who participated in the hearing by ZOOM from Yalova,
had indeed raped E.V. and he was re-arrested.

In Erzurum, minibus driver M.E.K. opened his vehicle's door as he

minibus came to a complete halt.  Nevertheless, with Hacer hanım
writhing in pain on the street, M.E.K. drove on.  She was taken to a
hospital in an ambulance that arrived at the scene.

Police stopped M.E.K. and asked him "Why did you leave the accident
scene?"  Defending his actions, M.E.K. "explained" that "As you know,
our  schedule is important (!) so I took my passengers where they needed
to go and arrived here (where police nabbed him).  I feel bad about what
happened.  I opened the door as I was coming to the stop but I wasn't

Traffic police fined M.E.K. for driving an uninspected vehicle, having

day M.E.K. was back at the wheel and was spotted by a local
journalist who boarded the minibus and asked M.E.K. how he could

In addition, since M.E.K. is a still now only a driver-candidate (!) he

The naked body of Prof. Dr. Selahattin Doludeniz, formerly an
academician at Selçuklu University in Mersin, was found in a barrel
at a garbage dump with his hands and feet bound (!).

Municipal workers who went to the dump in Ustalar village in Mersin's
Bozyazı district early in the morning to deposit trash, found the body
inside a plastic barrel.  Gendarmerie, police and medics arrived at the
scene and, after investigations, it was determined that the deceased was
Doludeniz, who lived with his son in İskele village in Anamur district.
The son O.D. gave conflicting statements and was taken into custody.

In his first statement to police, O.D. "explained" that he and his father
were cross with each other so O.D. left the house for a while, but upon
his return he found his father dead so he (quite naturally!) put his body
in a barrel and took it by taxi to the dump in Bozyazı.

Complexion problems may have affected O.D.'s moods.

No marks of violence were found on Doludeniz's body so efforts are

"Beat & Release": Worker Falls, Boss Worries About Insurance Coverage Versus Calling an Ambulance, in Ankara

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 14 September 2024)

                             Death by paperwork.

On 19 August, at a pastry shop in Ankara's Yenimahalle district, pastry
chef İsmail Can Seçkin (26) fell from a 4-meter high staircase with a
"baklava" cart and was seriously injured.  He stayed in Bilkent City
Hospital's intensive care unit for 22 days before passing away.

The claim has been made that after the accident, insurance actions were
prioritized by the shop owner, such that a call for an ambulance was
delayed.  A record in Seçkin's "e-devlet" (Turkey's citizen data base) file
shows that an insurance "entry" was registered on 19 August.  The
"e-devlet" records also reflected that in a two-year period Seçkin's
insurance "exit" occurred, the last time being in March 2024.

Seçkin's older brother Halil İbrahim Seçkin (29) claimed that his brother's
insurance "entry" occurred right after the accident. He stated that "After
he fell, the boss had the accountant find a computer so the 'entry' could
be made into the records.  Much time was wasted. Rather than worry
about insurance, if they had called an ambulance right away my brother
might be alive today.  It's almost akin to attempted murder.  I want those
responsible to be held accountable and punished.  It's unknown whether
or not my brother fell or did not fall. There are no camera records and
the failure to have camera coverage in a workplace is yet another matter
of irresponsibility.  And there were no banisters on that staircase, yet
another matter of safety neglect. Then there's the issue of the delay in
calling the ambulance.  For an employee that had given 8 years of
service this is intolerable."

The shop owner asserted that was just a fall from a staircase and that
there was no delay in getting Seçkin to the hospital.
