Meanwhile, no one's paying attention to the rice pudding!
A woman named M.K. filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office
against her husband, Ü.K., alleging that he yelled at her, insulted her
severely, and physically assaulted her because the rice pudding she
made was dry (!).Ü.K., however, denied the allegations of violence.
In Istanbul, M.K., a mother of two, went to the kitchen to make
pastries around 1:00 AM (!) on February 19th. While she was putting
the pastries in the oven, her husband, Ü.K., also came into the kitchen.
Seeing his wife making pastries, Ü.K. said they looked very nice.
M.K., noticing that the rice pudding in the glass dish on the counter
was dry, wanted to throw it away. Seeing this, her husband, Ü.K., said,
"We'll eat it, don't throw it away, pour some milk into the dish to
soften them."
Following her husband's advice, M.K. poured milk over the rice
pudding, moistening the dry parts, saying to him "Is that okay now?"
Allegedly, Ü.K., suddenly shouted, "I'm telling you this, how you
are doing it is not doing it the way I say!" and threw the rice
pudding from the glass dish to the floor. The glass dish broke, and
the rice puddings scattered everywhere. (!)
In response, M.K.asked, "Why are you doing this? What happened
that made you behave like this?" Allegedly, the husband, Ü.K., insulted
her severely and began to physically assault her, squeezing her arms.
Hearing the sounds of the argument, the couple's child intervened and
tried to break up the fight.
Henceforth, an essential ingredient for rice pudding.
M.K. then used the Women's Support Application (KADES) on her
mobile phone to call the police for help. Seeing this, Ü.K. locked the
door and threw the key out the window. After the police arrived, M.K.
escaped her husband's violence, went to the hospital, obtained a
medical report documenting the assault, and filed a criminal complaint
against Ü.K., the father of her children. In the petition submitted to the
prosecutor's office, M.K. stated, "There is no camera footage showing
the incident. However, my daughter witnessed everything."
In his statement given as part of the investigation, the husband, Ü.K.,
said in his defense, “I told my wife to pour milk over the rice pudding
because it had dried out. We only had a minor verbal argument about
this. I didn't yell at my wife, I didn't pick up the glass dish, I didn't throw
it on the floor, and I didn't break it. Then I went to the living room and
sat down. I didn't insult my wife. My wife provoked me by saying things
like, ‘Are you even a man?’ I didn't squeeze her arms or hit her. When
I learned she had called the police, in a moment of anger I locked the
door and threw the key out the window. I do not accept the accusations.”
