Would that the screws had been lira coins...
Traffic was disrupted in Silivri, Istanbul, due to screws spilling onto
the road from a truck carrying construction materials. The screws,
spread across an area of approximately 4 kilometers, caused numerous
tire punctures and long queues on the D-100 highway. Legal action
was taken against the truck driver, and the vehicle was impounded.
The incident occurred around 09:00 on the D-100 highway, in the
Yeni Mahalle area, heading towards Edirne. For reasons yet unknown,
screws spilled from a truck carrying construction materials onto the
road, stretching for approximately 4 kilometers. The scattered sharp
objects damaged the tires of several vehicles.
Following reports from drivers, teams from Silivri Regional Traffic,
Highways Directorate, and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM)
were dispatched to the scene. All lanes of the highway were closed to
traffic for approximately two hours to clean up the screws. Traffic was
diverted to a side road during this time. Long queues of vehicles formed
during the cleanup operation.
The screws on the road were collected by the traffic police, highway
crews and local shopkeepers working together. After the work, traffic
flow was restored in a controlled manner from a single lane. On the
other hand, a short argument occurred between a tanker driver waiting
in traffic and a traffic police officer on duty.
Culprit Y.K. with confessional poster he's selling. Why not
cash in?
Silivri District Police Department teams started working to identify the
truck and driver from which the screws were spilled. As a result of the
investigations of the police teams, it was determined that the driver of
the truck from which the bolts were spilled was a person named Y.K. (33).
Y.K., who was apprehended along with the pickup truck, was found to
be working as a screw polisher (!) in Silivri's Ortaköy neighborhood,
and checks revealed that the vehicle lacked a valid inspection certificate.
The vehicle was impounded, and legal proceedings were initiated against
suspect Y.K. for "damaging property" and "endangering traffic safety."
