Reduction he asked for: possession is nine-tenths of the law.
In 2021, Ahmet Salih Bilginer, the neighborhood chief in Yalova's 50th
Year neighborhood, got into an inheritance dispute with his family.
Bilginer met with his relatives on 6 April 2021 in Kartal, Istanbul, but
an argument erupted and Bilginer shot to death his uncle's children
Haluk Onat (58), Kebire Esra Aymutlu (54), Ayşe Ece Aymutlu (26)
and Ahmet Nuri Onat (63). In addition, Arzu Onat (56) was seriously
wounded.
Bilginer fled back to Yalova but was taken into custody there by the
Gendarmerie. At his trial, Bilginer asserted that "they all came after
me! But before the incident, a force entered my body so I didn't know
what I was doing. Something else was controlling me!" (!)
Nevertheless, the court sentenced Bilginer to four life terms in prison
for the murders and added on a 14-year sentence for the wounding.
Noting that Bilginer fled after the killings and showed no regret, he
did not qualify for any reductions in sentence.
