One of the 15 new "renters", lower left, living rent-free!
According to a court case in Istanbul, lawyer Murat Cemal Dayıoğlu
gave his house in Zekeriyaköy for rent to Elif Çiğdem Ç. in 2015.
Over the past year and a half Elif Çiğdem hanım paid her rent only
sporadically, prompting Dayıoğlu to start eviction proceedings. Elif
Çiğdem hanım was given 15 days to vacate the premises but left after
two months. Irritated by the whole process, she left 15 stray dogs in
the house without informing Dayıoğlu. (!)
In response, Dayıoğlu filed a complaint about Elif Çiğdem hanım and
had an expert determine that there had been 41,000 TL worth of damage
in the house (about $2,100) and that it cost him 120,000 TL (about $6,000)
to have the house restored to liveable condition.
As for Elif Çiğdem hanım, she asserted that "landlord Dayıoğlu
continually harassed me and called my neighbors and my lawyer,
inflicting emotional stress on me." Nevertheless, the public prosecutor
has opened a case against Elif Çiğdem hanım for "damage to property",
asking for a jail sentence of up to 3 years.
