Thanks for nothing.
The day before yesterday in Başköy village of Konya's Doğanhisar
district, newly-elected MHP (Nationalist Peoples Party) Mayor İhsan
Öztoklu (42) went to the village square with two helpers to put up a
billboard thanking the voters for his election. However, Öztoklu got
into an argument with Abdurrahman K. (25), the son of Öztoklu's
defeated İYİ Party predecessor Abdullah K., and his brother Osman
K., who tore down the billboard. As the argument heated up,
Abdurrahman K. stabbed Öztoklu to death. (!)
The Konya governor ordered that entrances and exits to the village be
closed off to prevent an escalation between the two opposing groups.
Abdullah K., who was taken into custody along with his sons, had
been elected mayor of Başköy in 2014 from the MHP. Two years
ago, Abdullah K. resigned from the MHP and continued in the
mayor's office as an independent. He switched to the İYİ Party for
the recent 31 March election and received 40 % of the votes in a
losing cause.
Doğanhisar is in the wild west of Konya province.
