In Istanbul and Izmir, customs agents seized 25,000 leeches and 400
weasel pelts from Ukraine. Two individuals who arrived at Istanbul
Airport from Ukraine looked suspicious to customs officials so they
were stopped and their baggage was put through an x-ray machine.
A suspicious-looking organic density in the luggage turned out to be
25,000 leeches (!).
Who wears weasel anyway?
At Adnan Menderes Airport in Izmir, officials identified two suspects,
based on information from the "Pre-arrival Passenger Program". One
of the suspects had transitted Istanbul Airport from Ukraine en route to
Izmir and his baggage was x-rayed, resulting in the discovery of 400
weasel pelts.
