In happier days...
According to allegations, Seyit Göçüm (47) repaid the 400,00 TL
(about $9,000) he borrowed from his friend Gürsoy K., a former boxer,
2 years ago, with interest, amounting to approximately 4 million lira.
However (!), Gürsoy K., who continued to demand money, assaulted
Göçüm, with whom he had a disagreement. Göçüm died in the
hospital after being taken there following the punch he received.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Pınartepe
neighborhood of Istanbul's Beylikdüzü district. Allegedly, former boxer
Gürsoy K. lent his close friend Seyit Göçüm 400,000 TL two years ago.
Last April, Seyit Göçüm married Mona Behmeni, and Gürsoy K. was his
witness at the wedding (!). Since the time of the loan, Göçüm has repaid
Gürsoy approximately 4 million TL (about $90,000) (!), including interest.
However (!), Gürsoy continued to demand more money. After a while,
Seyit Göçüm fell ill and, on the advice of doctors, quit his job. His wife,
Mona hanım, left her beauty salon to her employees and took over her
husband's business.
On January 13, 2026, Gürsoy K. went to Göçüm's workplace, which was
being managed by Mona Behmeni, and demanded more money.
Göçüm's wife, Behmeni hanım, said to Gürsoy K., "We gave you two
luxury cars, and we made payments many times, both in cash and through
the bank. Why isn't this debt being paid off? I'll give you my beauty center
too, just to close this matter." Upon hearing this, Gürsoy K. told Behmeni
to have her husband come and settle the matter.
The following day, Gürsoy K. and Seyit Göçüm met at a cafe next to their
workplace. After sitting for a while, the two got up and left. As they were
walking down the street, Gürsoy punched Göçüm. Göçüm collapsed from
the blow, and bystanders alerted his wife who was sitting inside the
workplace. When she came out, Gürsoy K. attacked her as well. The couple
called the police. While police were investigating the scene,
Seyit Göçüm fainted and died in the hospital. The entire incident was
captured on security cameras of nearby businesses.
Mona hanım, describing what happened, said, “My husband had an illness.
The doctors said, 'He should stay away from stress.' So my husband quit his
job and started staying home to rest. I also quit my beauty salon and took
over my husband's business. I started working in his place.
On January 13th, Gürsoy K. came to my husband's workplace. He asked me,
'Where is your husband?'” I told him, "You know my husband is sick and
resting at home." He said my husband still owed him money. I asked,
"What debt? Hasn't this debt been paid off yet?" and offered to give him
my beauty salon. He said, "Tell your husband to come tomorrow and sort
this out, otherwise I'll kill him first and then demolish the beauty salon."
That evening, I told my husband what happened, but I didn't tell him the
part where Gürsoy K. threatened me. On January 14th, my husband and
Gürsoy sat in a cafe next to his workplace. After sitting for 5-6 minutes,
they got up. While walking, Gürsoy punched my husband, even though
he knew he was sick. When my husband became ill, the neighbors came
and told me. When I went outside, Gürsoy hit me too. People around
separated us. Then my husband told me to call the police and a lawyer.
The police and the lawyer arrived. My husband explained everything,
and at that moment, he became ill and fainted in front of the police.
And I lost my husband."
Following the incident, Gürsoy K. was taken into custody by police. He
was subsequently arrested after being brought before the court. However,
Mona hanım stated that she was threatened by the suspect's family, saying
"The pain wasn't easy. I tried to compose myself a little. But Gürsoy's family
threatened me. They said, 'You're a foreigner, we'll have you deported;
withdraw your complaint.' I can't leave the house, I can't go to work. I
don't want money, I just want justice. He ruined our lives. I was only
married for 9 months. I will stand by my complaint to the end."
