Yesterday, a pregnant woman who boarded a Bornova-Buca "dolmuş"
(minibus) on Bornova Industrial Street experienced labor pains.
Other passengers informed the driver, Serkan Çetinyoklav, of the situation.
Çetinyoklav steered the vehicle towards a nearby private hospital. During
this time, the woman gave birth in the vehicle (!). Upon notification
from the passenger and Serkan bey at the hospital entrance, medical
personnel arrived and cut the baby's umbilical cord inside the vehicle.
The mother and baby were taken into the hospital. Following the birth,
it was learned that the mother and baby, who were receiving treatment
at the hospital, are in good health.
Serkan Çetinyoklav told reporters that the pregnant woman boarded
the minibus alone. He explained that the woman experienced labor pains
a few minutes later, saying, "When the woman next to her told me about
the situation, I asked another female passenger to help the pregnant
woman. When she said, 'Brother, labor is happening,' I decided to
forget about the other passengers in the minibus and take her to the
hospital as a humanitarian duty. I drove the minibus to the hospital."
Baby girl with an unusual birthplace.
Çetinyoklav, stating that he has been a driver for 35 years and this was
the first time he had encountered such a situation, said: "When we arrived
at the hospital, I told the nurses, 'I have a passenger who just gave birth.'
The birth happened in the dolmuş. The nurses wrapped the baby, cut the
umbilical cord, and took her to the ward with the mother. I know it's a girl.
I would like to meet the family. I want to say, 'Congratulations, may she
have a bright future.'"
Çetinyoklav added that he experienced the joy of helping someone in need,
and that all drivers would do the same.
