Very expensive flowers.
In Adana, a police anti-fraud team determined the identities of three
fraudsters who bilked seven victims with promises of cooperative
work and romance out of 8,820,000 TL (about $210,000): Halil B.
(48), his girlfriend Nuray F. (40) and Zeynel Abidin T. (38).
A raid on their addresses resulted in them being taken into custody
and the recovery of 21 deeds, 1,620,000 TL-worth of promisory notes
and a large amount of digital material.
For example, on 8 March 2022, Halil B. and Nuray F. sent flowers to
Şükran Candan (58) ostensibly to celebrate World Women's Day.
Disguised as a courier, Nuray F. delivered the flowers to Şükran hanım
and tricked her into signing away $95,000 worth of her holdings. (!)
Şükran hanım thought the flowers had come from her son, so she
signed for the flowers without a second thought. Only later did
she realize she had been hoodwinked and, checking "e-Devlet"
(Turkey's electronic database for citizens), Şükran hanım saw that
her summer home and four other homes, along with an automobile
and a motorcycle, had been sequestered. (!)
Once police identified and captured the culprits, the three of them
were jailed.
