Anti-Smoking Concoction Smothers 'Smoke'

In Diyarbakır, factory worker Murat Duman (25), who has wanted
to quit smoking after 7 years, brought a 'karışım' (concoction) home
that he got from a friend.  After drinking the 'karışım' Duman (whose
surname means 'smoke' in Turkish!)  went into a bathroom, where he
stayed for about 20 minutes.

Concerned, Duman's brother and sister forced the door open and
found Duman passed out.  His sister, who has had nursing training,
checked Duman's pulse and heartbeat.  After being taken to a hospital,
Duman was declared dead.  His father explained that Duman had
obtained a 3-liter jar of the 'karışım' from a friend and was determined
to quit smoking.  At home, in the presence of his brother and older
sister, Duman strained the 'karışım' and drank it, although his siblings
warned him that the smell indicated the concoction wasn't safe to
drink.  Evidently, drinking the 'karışım' killed Duman, before smoking
could.
