Sickening
British couple Martin Thomas Brown (39) and Lindsey Brown (36),
along with their two children, went to Marmaris for a vacation in the
summer of 2016. On the third day of the vacation, while Martin was
enjoying the bar at the 4-star hotel on Cumhuriyet Avenue, he told a
British friend that he planned to file a compensation claim in the UK
alleging that he has suffered food poisoning from the hotel food.
Subsequently, Martin's friend told hotel officials about the plan so
they had hotel personnel keep an eye on the Browns. Three days
before the end of their vacation, Martin told the hotel reception staff
that he had suffered food poisoning at the hotel. The Brown couple
was taken to the hotel doctor and then to a private hospital for various
tests, but no indications of food poisoning emerged from these
examinations.
Upon returning to the hotel, the Brown family was seen by the hotel
staff dancing and enjoying the pool-side music. The staff preserved
the related video as a hedge against any possible complaint from the
Browns.
The look of vindication.
When the Browns returned to Manchester they filed a complaint
in court there alleging that they had suffered food poisoning at the
Marmaris hotel and demanding 20,000 pounds as compensation.
The Browns' lawyer spoke with the hotel about a mediated
settlement but the hotel sent the documents, videos and voice
recordings related to the Browns to the lawyer, who, realizing
that the Browns were trying to scam a settlement, withdrew from
the case.
Hotel owner Emre Deliveli (44) pursued the case, though, and
filed a suit against the Browns in British court, demanding 30,000
pounds in compensation. A week ago the case concluded. The
the Browns were found guilty and forced to pay the 30,000 pounds.
Deliveli remarked that "lost of hotels get hit with these types of
baseless claims. Justice found its place in the court in England."
