"...and don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you!"
Calling themselves the 'Tebliğ Cemaati' (Community of the Message),
a group of about 15-20 Afghans, Pakistanis and Indians caused some
tumult in Artvin's Borçka district, where the group got an unexpected
invitation to leave the town.
As the group walked along the avenue in Borçka, shopkeepers reacted
negatively. One member of the group told a shopkeeper in Turkish
"we're visiting places the world over, not just in Turkey." The
shopkeeper responded with an unpleasant "why?" and proceeded to
criticize the group. Gathering in front of a shop, the group members,
wearing turbans and cloaks, wanted to engage in a dialogue but a
shopkeeper said with irritation "this guy comes from Afghanistan and
he's going to tell me about religion?! Don't come her again! Get out
of here and don't return! We don't let fanatics like you proselytize
around here! We have nothing to learn from you, get out!"
The group then quietly retreated from in front of the shop and later
departed from Borçka in light of the shopkeepers' ire.
Borçka is in extreme NE Turkey, near the border with Georgia.
