Now he's thinking "Wrong career move?"
A gang in Istanbul headed by Ç.Ö. put adds on the internet recruiting
gigolos, promising between 2,000 and 5,000 TL per day for hooking
up with rich women. Responders were asked to send between 1,000
and 2,000 TL, along with their personal and banking data, to become
members of the gigolo team (!).
The gang had a woman gang member call the responder, who got
enthused and agreed to pay an additional "VIP" membership fee.
However (!), another gang member would frighten the responder by
saying "the money you sent went to FETÖ (Fethullah Gülen Terror
Organization) members' accounts. We're the only ones who can help
you get out of this mess but it will take more money."
After receiving the additional money, the gang gave the responder
the cold shoulder but, out of embarrassment or fear, those who were
hoodwinked refrained from calling the police. In this way, hundreds
of wanna-be gigolos were bilked out of 9 million TL (about $1.5
million) over the course of six months, while the gang members were
living the high life in luxury residences and driving expensive cars.
