Rabbit's 'gator' shirt wasn't enough to fool the cops.
Police busted an illegal Konya-based betting ring run by one
Kurşat Tavşan (whose surname means 'rabbit') and his wife Nesrin,
along with 21 others in 6 provinces, in a sting that the police
(cheekily) named 'Operation Bugs Bunny', in honor of the gang's
leader.
In the operation, police seized 2.4 million TL, gold and jewels
valued at 400,000 TL, 65 properties worth 132 million TL and
20 automobiles. In addition, the 537 bank accounts that the
gang used were shut down. The amount of money and property
seized set a police record for an illegal betting operation.
Someone musta ratted on him.
Surveillance of the gang went on for 8 months in Konya, Istanbul,
Ankara, Antalya, Mersin and Balıkesir, where the police raids
were conducted simultaneously. 26 suspects were taken into
custody and 8 were said to be out of the country. Another 4 are
on the lam.
Tavşan drew players to his 'legal' betting site and then had his
minions steer customers to illegal sites, where Tavşan took
commissions from the winnings. Tavşan's website had 1 million
followers and he was one of the highest-earning prognosticators.
A group in the gang called 'cebci' (pocketers) immediately
withdrew the money the website players deposited, from ATMs.
Lest we forget the master himself.
