(Roasted) Dried Fruits & Nuts
In Esenyurt, Istanbul, the family and friends of Tayfun Özagin, who
was gunned down in 2016 at the Rüzgâr Kuruyemiş (dried fruits &
nuts) store, stormed the same store a year later, shot Ercan
Gönülkırmaz (28) and set the store on fire. However (!), the store
had been sold 6 months before to a family other than the one the
Özagin's were feuding with.
In the case related to Gönülkırmaz's death, two suspects fled
abroad and the one remaining suspect was released on a 250,000 TL
(about $50,000) bond. Gönülkırmaz's older brother Yüksel
Gönülkırmaz was outraged by the release-on-bond decision and
lamented "is a burned life worth just 250,000 TL?!"
Tayfun Özagin was killed at Rüzgâr Kuruyemiş on 14 October 2016
by his sworn enemy Muhammet Karakoç. Six months after the
incident, the Karakoç family sold Rüzgâr Kuruyemiş to another
family, which changed the name to Çelik Şarküteri (Steel Delicatessen).
As the trial for Tayfun Özagin's murder continued, his older brother
Akın Özagin, uncle Nihat Budak, friend and business partner Servet
Tevetoğlu, Arif Rasim Topçu and Turgay Tokur launched an attack
on Çelik Şarküteri on 17 January 2017, killing Ercan Gönülkırmaz.
The group then set the store afire.
The trial of the murder suspects began but Nihat Budak and Turgay
Tokur fled abroad. Servet Tevetoğlu was incarcerated and 8
individuals were charged by the Bakırköy Public Prosecutor with
"vendetta killing", "destruction of property" and "carrying an
unlicensed weapon".
The other day in court in Bakırköy, during the 6th hearing of the
case, Servet Tevetoğlu was released on a 250,000 TL bond, based
on time served already. Yüksek Gönülkırmaz objected to the
court's decision, saying "5 suspects are free pending trial, two
suspects fled abroad and the one suspect in custody has been freed.
He may flee at any time. Is a burned life worth just 250,000 TL?!"
