"I am the line painter, hear me roar!"
Hulusi Durmuş (63), who lives in Izmir, returned to Turkey from
France in 1997. When he noticed that the lines on the roads were
insufficient he saw a business opportunity so he first brought line-
painting machines from abroad and began to sell them.
As time went by, Durmuş set up his own factory and began
producing the machines. Now there are 450 workers employed
in his factory and Durmuş is responsible for having painted
half the lines on Turkey's roads.
Now Durmuş is providing his machines and training to countries
that are developing their road infrastructure, like Azerbaijan,
Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Kosova, Turkmenistan, Egypt,
Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Algeria, Uganda and
Ethiopia.
Durmuş says about his work that "lines are the basis for human
safety on the roads. The length of the lines we paint in a year
could circle the Earth 2.5 times. Traffic lines impose discipline
on the road and save lives."
Practice makes perfect!
