Could we call this "assisted suicide"?
In Bursa, Emirhan Şirinel (21) wanted to marry his girlfriend so on the
night of 18 March he revealed this decision to his father Erkan Şirinel (45).
When Erkan bey objected, however, an argument ensued between father
and son, with Emirhan grabbing a hunting rifle and shooting his father
dead at point-blank range, in front of his mother Pınar Şirinel (43).
Emirhan bey called the police and said that his father had committed
suicide (!). Erkan bey's body was taken to the morgue and his son and
wife went to the police station to give statements. Emirhan claimed
that he wasn't at home when his father killed himself and only came
when his mother called to give him the sad news of his father's suicide.
Meanwhile, Pınar hanım asserted that she was in the kitchen when she
heard the gunshot and ran to the living room to find her husband dead.
Police found their accounts to be contradictory so Emirhan bey and
Pınar hanım were cross-examined. At this point, Emirhan bey
confessed to the murder and was charged with "intentional murder of
a close relative" and jailed. Pınar hanım was released under judicial
supervision.
