While making routine checks during their biodiversity and hunting
control activities, teams from the 6th Regional Directorate of the Nature
Preservation and National Parks (DKMP) suspected that bio-smuggling
might be afoot in the Üzümdere Wildlife Development Field in Akseki
district of Antalya province, so they pursued a suspect.

It turned out that a German, whose name has not been made known,
was illegally collecting various types of snails (!) for a book he is writing.
The snails were seized and the German researcher was fined 109,593 TL
(about $7,700).
Don't mess with the DKMP Rangers.
On its social media account, the DKMP 6th Regional Directorate issued
this statement: "it was determined that a German individual was collecting
various snail types illegally and without permission for a scientific book
he is writing. The pliers, scissors, cups, bags and snails in the possession of
the bio-smuggler were seized and a fine of 109,593 TL was imposed."
