A cuddly loanshark with image savvy.
Model Merve Çelik (27), who lives in Izmir, met Hünkar Meletli (44)
through her friend Şeyma B. At the time, Merve hanım needed money
so she got a 3,000 TL loan from Meletli in exchange for a promissory
note declaring that Merve hanım would pay back 3,300 TL.
Merve hanım paid back her debt to Meletli within 15 days and got a
receipt from him. However (!), Meletli held on to the promissory note
and after some time had passed he started legal proceedings against
Merve hanım and her friend Murat B., showing Meletli's friend İbrahim
Olcap Dipçin (39) as the beneficiary.
Merve hanım asserted that Meletli had trapped her, as he had done to
many other women, and filed a suit against him. Meletli claimed to
have no knowledge of the promissory note and Dipçin declared that
"I lent money to Merve Çelik and this promissory note is the collateral
for her debt."
The public prosecutor opened a case against Meletli and Dipçin for
"loansharking" and "fraud", asking for a 16-year jail term and a 10-year
jail term, respectively. There are more than 50 criminal cases and
investigations involving Meletli.
